La Pergola

We found this property through an Instagram story and, after seeing photos and prices on the website (€110 per night for the room we chose in the pool area), we called to book. The owner told us they only accepted stays of at least two nights, assuring us we could use the pool on both days. We confirmed via WhatsApp,sending a screenshot of the room and the price,and received the reply “ok, grazie”. Upon arrival we were greeted by a man,presumably the husband,who took us to a different room than the one we had booked,not in the pool area. Shortly after we discovered that our reservation had not been registered and that the room where we had left our luggage was intended for other guests. They moved us to another room,while the man insisted that the room shown on the website “could not” cost €110 and made us look like liars,despite the confirmation message. The next morning at breakfast the man told us verbatim that “I don’t give this property to everyone,but only to people of a certain type”,citing as an example that the previous week he had hosted Billy Costacurta and his wife. An inappropriate and disrespectful comment. I showed him the website again with the photos and prices of the rooms in the pool area:at that point he admitted the images were accurate,but shifted responsibility to his children,claiming he did not want to advertise those rooms and wanted to give them only “to chosen people”. The following day,despite the initial agreement,we were told we had to leave the property by 11:00 and could not stay by the pool on Sunday. Once again we were treated with suspicion,as if we were making everything up. At that point we decided to pay immediately and leave that same evening,even late at night. I would not have stayed another minute in a place where I did not feel welcome. It’s a pity,because the pool area was well kept and had potential,but the management and the attitude toward guests made the stay an experience to forget.
