Area hills
It is impossible to resist the timeless allure of the Euganean Hills, recognized as a UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserve, where the pace of life slows down and offers a genuine harmony for the spirit. Among picturesque landscapes and fairy-tale views, the five thermal towns of Abano, Montegrotto, Galzignano, Battaglia, and Teolo are surrounded by extraordinary nature, where ancient oaks and chestnut forests alternate with Mediterranean scrub and terraced vineyards and orchards.
The Euganean Hills Natural Park, the first regional park in Veneto established in 1989, spans a hilly area of volcanic origin of about 19,000 hectares and provides numerous opportunities for exploration, whether by car, on foot, or by bike. With 40 equipped trails and scenic roads, the park protects a remarkably rich territory, home to over 1,700 botanical species, which is about one-sixth of Italy's flora.
The hills frame ancient villages, medieval castles, centuries-old churches, and hermitages, alongside elegant Venetian villas and noble residences, which are testaments to the grandeur of past noble families. These estates, with their majestic facades and enchanting gardens, narrate centuries of history, art, and tradition. In small artisan workshops, ancient skills are passed down, creating unique objects: artistic furniture, violins, ceramics, stone sculptures, copper artifacts, leather goods, and jewelry. A journey through these villages reveals these treasures, reminding us of elegant ladies and powerful noble houses.
The landscape, shaped by geological history spanning over 50 million years, features gentle limestone profiles that support volcanic peaks, creating unmistakable scenery. This unique formation is linked to the area's thermal heritage: the beneficial waters and mud, rich in therapeutic properties, flow abundantly at the foot of the hills, making the Euganean Hills a timeless destination for wellness and relaxation.
