points of interest in Fiorano Modenese
Ceramics Museum
The Ceramics Museum documents the techniques and methods of ceramic production: the Historical section looks at the period from the Neolithic age to the modern day, the Modern section focuses on industrialization and ceramic tiles, while the Contemporary Collection looks at aspects of design and innovation, labour in the ceramics districts and includes a collection of devotional ceramics.
Spezzano castle, which dates back to medieval times but underwent significant changes during the Renaissance, features a magnificent frescoed room commissioned around 1596, depicting views of the lands controlled by Marco III Pio. The frescoes are the work of renowned artist Cesare Baglione. Coffered ceilings, pictorial cycles, prisons, a cloistered courtyard and a historical park all add to the castle’s charms. There is also a pedestrian/cycle path that leads from the castle grounds to the Salse di Nirano nature reserve.
