Archaeological Museum
Lavinium Archaeological Museum was opened in 2005 and is dedicated to the ancient town called Lavinium, which according to the legend has been founded by the hero Aeneas. The Museum, placed in a building just outside the medieval settlement known as the Borgo di Pratica di Mare, that used to be the ancient acropolis of Lavinium, is conceived as an innovative means of communication, based on the balance between the traditional exhibition of archaeological finds and the highest multimedia technology. In every room a different theme is explored: the sanctuary of Minerva, with the stunning 5th century BC original terracotta statue of Minerva Tritonia, the women's world with a series of terracotta heads and busts and the jewels coming from 8th-7th century BC tombs, a 3D rendering of the journey of Aeneas, the greek vases and other votive offerings coming from the important Sanctuary of the Thirteen Altars, the monumental tomb that in the 4th century was turned into a shrine dedicate to Aeneas, marked by a huge tufa door.
