Description
The "LOCANDA SOTTO LA LUNA" has 7 beds, located in three comfortable rooms with exclusive bathrooms adjacent to the rooms, within a medieval mansion that has maintained its original characteristics.

The rooms and all the rooms of the B&B are furnished with original furniture and beds, according to an unmistakable style with warmth and memories of a distant past, which warms the heart.

A large kitchen allows you to sit by the warmth of an ancient fireplace, where you can still hear the clink of dishes and the smell of bread baked in a wood oven or polenta cooked in a copper pot.

A place to spend time, where time seems to have stopped! The "LOCANDA SOTTO LA LUNA" is located away from the chaos, but close to everyday life. It will envelop you with its silence, halfway between a dream..and reality.

Breakfast
Breakfast is the moment when a traveler can taste the authenticity of products made by skilled hands with top-quality raw materials. Honey, with its many flavors, comes from a producer up on the hill. The bread is made in the ancient oven of a nearby village with stone-ground flour and leavened with sourdough. The jams are made with the most genuine organic fruit, and the eggs come from "mountain" hens that lay them fresh every day.

Hey from Marco

Member since August 2018 | 6,926 hits
This ancient residence has always belonged to my family who has preserved and kept it intact over time, since 1620 when the earliest traces were found. For the last five generations, the house has been passed down from woman to woman, including Contessa Camilla Caterina Melli, who, defying the objections of her parents and the Curia, secretly married Vincenzo Grassi in 1818, a member of a non-noble family living in Viano. After the fact, the Bishop of Reggio Emilia blessed the marriage from which my ancestors Matilde, Elvira, my grandmother Emilia, who had two daughters, my mother Annamaria, and my aunt Lisetta were born. In 2015, I continued the tradition by becoming the current owner and began a long process of scientific restoration to bring the buildings of the village back to their former glory. I have decided to open my home to curious travelers who want to discover a magical place, rich in history and traditions, where they can immerse themselves, find peace, and feel a part of it.

Area hills
San Polo is an ancient and picturesque village from the XV century located in an area where time slows down, and the mind is carried away by the ancient rhythm of the sun and the moon. It summarizes the most salient features of the architectural landscape of the Reggio Emilia Apennines in the late medieval period.

The village, formerly known as "Cà de Grassi in San Polo," takes its name from an old oratory dedicated to San Pauli, on the ruins of which the current Municipality was built.

This area of the middle hill preserves a significant architectural heritage with monumental buildings perfectly integrated into the natural forms of the landscape, constituting a homogeneous area of exceptional historical and environmental value.

The village of San Polo includes the manor house, and two tower houses of late medieval origin. The most significant one overlooks a small road leading to the castle of Viano and is made up of a dovecote. An elevated niche contains a valuable fresco depicting the Virgin with the Child and St. Anthony with the weapon of the patron.

The second tower, with a massive structure, shows similar typological characteristics.

Eighteenth-century rural buildings that served as residences for cultivators with related agricultural buildings such as the stable, the hayloft, and the oven/kitchen surround the historic houses, served by ancient river-pebble alleys that allow discovering every corner of the village. All around, the greenery embraces everything with its meadow and woodland areas.

I can only speak well of it! We stayed at this property for 4 nights with our daughter, the location is very suggestive both outside and inside. It is a historic stone residence, the floors and furnishings reflect the original period. We had the bathroom outside the room, but it was absolutely no problem. The first days we used a small and less modern but very original one, with a library full of books to consult if you wanted to take a relaxing bath in the tub, then we were given a larger and more modern bathroom, stunning! The breakfast served in the garden is fantastic! Homemade cakes, juices, homemade croissants by a local girl who has a home restaurant and uses local flours. Fruit and cookies always homemade. Always everything set with care and attention to details, the same goes for the small details of the b&b, like air fresheners, paintings or small details that made it special. The exterior is enchanting, located on a hill, you can take walks in nature or simply relax on a deck chair to read a book or work. Flowers, aromatic plants, fruit trees. The nature all around is a dream! So much silence and relaxation! The owners have always been very kind, it was a pleasure to stop and have a chat, they have always been available, kind and discreet. I hope to return soon, it's a place that stays in the heart!
