Le Zagare

The B&B Le Zagare is located near a spectacular and evocative landscape of rare national beauty: the Calanchi di Montalbano Jonico, a nature reserve recognized by the Basilicata Region (L. R. n° 3 2011).

A unique geosite in Italy for its geomorphological characteristics in a vast area of about 30 square kilometers that surrounds the village in its western part. An open-air museum rich in marine fossils, with vegetation struggling to grow on the steep and tall white slopes of the calanchi, where the "Royal Kite" soars, dominating an endless lunar landscape.

Just ten minutes from B&B Le Zagare, you can reach the golden and sunny beaches of the Ionian Sea. The clarity of the sea, the whiteness and fineness of the sand, and the shallow depth of the seabed make this place pleasant and relaxing. We are in the grand theater of Magna Graecia, of which the Palatine Tables of Metaponto and the national museums of Taranto, Metaponto, and Policoro are undeniable evidence.

Between the sea, pine forests, and wild beaches, you can enjoy special moments at the National Sailing Center in Policoro, where activities such as swimming, sailing, windsurfing, and more are practiced.

Near the Sailing Center is the WW. FF center where, among many activities, marine turtles "Caretta Caretta" injured by boats or shark fish are taken care of.

A visit to the picturesque tourist port "Marinagri" is also fascinating, filled with attractions and exquisite beauty.

A short distance from the beaches (about 3 km), venturing into the forest of "Andriace" in the municipality of Montalbano Jonico, through paths immersed in Mediterranean vegetation, you can visit the "Masseria Magno Greca" and the "Archeoparco," life-size reproductions of rural and artisanal settlements from the 7th/5th century AD.

Twenty minutes from B&B "Le Zagare" is the picturesque medieval village of "Valsinni," rich in traditions and culture. Overlooking the Sinni River, whose fresh and tumultuous waters and long silences inspired the poetess Isabella Morra, who died at the hands of her brother.

Due to its medieval beauty and its history linked to the poetess, the "Isabella Morra Literary Park" was established. Thanks to its architecture, traditions, and typical local cuisine, Valsinni has been included among the most beautiful villages in Italy.

A small medieval village on a hill overlooking the Sinni Valley, it enjoys one of the most beautiful panoramas in Basilicata. The view stretches between the horizon of the Ionian Sea and the peaks of the Pollino National Park. Culture, traditions, and gastronomy blend in festive harmony. Folklore, fueled by legends and superstitions of a peasant world regarding the "Jettatura, the evil eye, and witchcraft," created, in the past, a sort of isolation for the village. The intuition of the mayor and some fellow citizens made the "Jettatura, the evil eye, and the witch" become a strength for the community. An open-air theatrical performance, repeated every year through the streets of the village, brings moments of extraordinary joy to Colobraro, attracting audiences from the entire regional and extra-regional territory. Fifteen minutes from B&B "Le Zagare," you can reach Craco, the "ghost" town that overlooks the green valley of the Cavone stream cultivated with vast wheat fields. The "spectral" charm of Craco is unique in the world. A completely uninhabited town (due to a landslide), with walls blackened by time, inhabited by owls, bats, owls, crows, and hawks, disturbed only by the strong whistling of the north winds. A fascinating place that has become an increasingly popular attraction for film crews and tourists in search of surreal sensations.
