Description

The "Dodici Lune" is the result of a recent renovation of a complex of homes, including some carved into the rock, overlooking a typical neighborhood of the Sassi. It consists of seven residential units arranged on two levels, all with independent entrances, private bathrooms with showers, air conditioning, satellite TV, and minibars. For groups of young people, there is a mini-apartment with ten bunk beds, a kitchenette, dining room, double bathroom with shower, and all other amenities.

Our restaurant is located in an ancient cellar completely dug by hand in tuff. It can accommodate up to a maximum of 60 seats. Our outdoor courtyard, romantic in summer, is ideal for small events of up to 30 people.

Our cuisine offers typical products of our land, cooked with care and passion. All of our products are locally sourced.

At first glance, when we saw this vast structure in ruins, we thought that we would never be able to reach our dream and create our future. It was like gambling..you either win or lose, and we took a risk. These are the words of the owners who, determined and optimistic, began to renovate a small gem in the Sassi.

Area Sasso Caveoso

These residences have recently been renovated, some of them are entirely dug into the rock and all of them face a typical Sassi neighbourhood. They consist of seven home units on two levels. Each residence has a private entrance, an en-suite bathroom with shower, air conditioning, satellite TV and mini-bar. A mini-flat is available for groups with 10 bunk beds, kitchenette and dining area.
Furthermore, the restaurant of this Residence, a former wine-cellar entirely carved into the rock, offers typical local dishes and proposes both half- and full board options.
Le Dodici Lune is the perfect place from which to absorb Matera's evocative scenery and history that takes you back 10,000 years in time.

We stayed one night in the suite. The room is very spacious, clean, and the furnishings represent the right compromise between comfort and respect for the layout of the places. It is one of the most beautiful rooms we have ever stayed in. The staff is friendly and kind and the breakfast is very good, with local homemade products for both sweet and savory.

In the center of the Sassi, excellently renovated but with the typical features preserved, The owners are super helpful in providing information and advice, including the recommendation to visit Matera with a guide, absolutely necessary. Great experience. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately we stayed only one night but it was enough to fully experience a fantastic stay. Beautiful and welcoming structure and fantastic staff. The breakfast was also excellent, abundant and varied. Highly recommended.

Two days and two nights in the heart of the Sasso Caveoso in Matera: a wonderful experience during a motorcycle trip. Le Dodici Lune is a place where you "feel" like you are actually inside the truest nature of the city of Matera. I recommend this property wholeheartedly to anyone.

We couldn't have hoped for better. We lived in the same environments as the shepherds of the Sassi, the urban agglomeration used by poor people to survive with their animals: donkeys, pigs, chickens, as described by the tour guide on our walk in the city of Matera. An experience not to be missed.

We stayed on the 15th and 16th of December 2018. Enchanting place, all perfect, abundant and quality breakfast (sweet and savory). The managers are friendly, helpful, beautiful, and funny. Unique place in the world. I didn't give a 10 because the signage needs improvement (first of all a nice big sign in front of the parking lot) and then you should start to indicate the road to get to the B&B before the ZTL. Maybe I'm a bit picky, but if I can help make everything perfect, I think it can only please you. Highly recommended, Merry Christmas.

Very welcoming staff, very beautiful and characteristic structure. Recommended for families. There are some stairs to reach it, but in Matera there are many, so it did not pose any problem for us. Very clean rooms and a very good breakfast with homemade products (cakes and cookies).

Absolutely amazing B&B in the Sassi part of Matera, with spacious rooms partly in caves, very comfortable (in spite of lots of steps) and clean. The restaurant serves local dishes outside in the yard or inside, the staff is very friendly and helpful, they even have a local magician, who comes to have a meal and performs his tricks, especially when there are some children present. Highly recommended.
