We are Paolo and Marilisa, the grandchildren of grandmother Giulia, called by all “Giulietta la Montese”.

Hospitality is one of the distinguishing characteristics of people from Basilicata and we love welcoming our guests and helping them with any possible needs.

We will provide you with all the information you need to fully experience the magic of the town by sharing our knowledge and revealing its secrets.

Area Sasso Barisano

It is possible to visit the historic Casa Cava located in the heart of Barisano, just 250 meters away. Originally, Casa Cava was used as a well quarry for extracting blocks of calcarenite (commonly called tuff) between the 1400s and 1600s. The entrance was from the top, precisely between via San Biagio and via Santa Cesarea.

Adjacent to Casa Cava, you can see the San Pietro Barisano church which is the largest rock church in the city of Matera. Archaeological investigations have allowed to identify the first rock structure dating back to the 12th-13th century, below the floor. With a first expansion intervention between the 15th and 16th centuries, the excavation of the church was deepened and the side chapels were created.

Of these interventions, only the terminal part of the chapel located behind the second altar of the right aisle remains, with the frescoes of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the Annunciation, Saint Canio, Saint Augustine, Saint Eustace, and Saint Vitus.

We were warmly welcomed at this B&B, we even got our room early. The staff is lovely and very competent. Moreover, the location is perfect, just a few steps from a Sasso and one of the most beautiful views of Matera. I highly recommend it.

We stayed for one night as a stopover, we had the family room. Apart from the stairs to reach the room with the suitcase, everything was perfect! Spacious, clean, cool rooms. We walked down and spent the afternoon and the evening in the city center. Great location! We only found it a bit difficult to find parking, as it was Saturday everything was full, but I would definitely go back. The breakfast was just right, with everything you would expect. The manager was very kind and helpful.

I booked in this property through Ben-and-Breakfast.it, a few days before leaving. The ratings I gave are all maximum, so I don't have much to write.\n\nMrs. Marilisa is very kind, giving us information on what to visit in Matera. I assure you that with her directions you will feel very comfortable.\n\nThe room was very clean, with new furnishings and a renovated bathroom. The breakfast room, located on the upper floor, is very nice, also with new furnishings and a plentiful breakfast.\n\nThe property is located in a ZTL, but we were able to park just 5 minutes away.\n\nThe only drawback is that it is not suitable for those with mobility problems, as being an old renovated house, there is a staircase inside to reach the room.\n\nWe couldn't have chosen better. Highly recommended this B&B.

The structure turned out to be very comfortable. We stayed in a family room (two rooms and the bathroom). Accurate cleaning, recently renovated comfortable shower in the bathroom. Both rooms were equipped with air conditioning, there was also a small fridge available. Linen, sheets, pillows: all perfect. Water, herbal teas, and coffee are available in the common entrance. Breakfast was a pleasant treat, served in a very cozy attic. The structure is very close to the center but for this reason it was not easy to find parking nearby. We checked in independently. The owner answered all my requests on the phone providing me with useful advice. A 5-star bed and breakfast, all fully deserved! Highly recommended.

Bed and Breakfast average, very clean, and with all the comforts for a short stay. The bathroom is very nice, spacious, and clean. The only thing I would recommend specifying on booking sites is the presence of a long internal staircase before accessing the room (especially for those with many suitcases or guests with mobility problems), and that not all rooms have a view of Matera. Also, there are serious parking problems.

The structure is very convenient to the center, but what is important for Matera, you can get there by car! Clean and quiet room. The owners make an effort for their clients, so that they have no inconvenience. Marilisa gave us excellent advice for our stay: guides, local places, places to visit and she is a good host. Definitely a great b&b, where we hope to return!

I stayed two days with my girlfriend and what to say the bed and breakfast is managed by Marilisa, a fantastic, helpful and kind person, clean and new room and the location of the bed and breakfast is very central in the area of Sasso Barisano. Good breakfast with the possibility of using the kitchen for a snack.

Giulietta nei Sassi is in a great location, very close to the entrance to the Sassi but outside the ZTL area, with easy parking. The manager, Mrs. Marilisa, was extremely friendly and helpful. The B&B is very clean. Very attentive to COVID regulations, we also found sanitizing spray for surfaces and surgical masks at our disposal. All very positive. To be repeated!
