Dimore Dei Mercanti was an amazing experience for my girlfriend and me. We spent only one night sleeping in the Sassi, but I wish we could have stayed longer. Giuseppe, the owner, was very welcoming and provided all the information we needed. I chose the room with a Jacuzzi bathtub inside. It was the perfect choice for a romantic night. I highly recommend this property.

Absolutely brilliant. The rooms have incredible character and are at the same time super clean and well equipped. The location is excellent, as is the breakfast. Giuseppe is incredibly helpful and an all-around fantastic host. I can only recommend it; I wish we lived closer to Matera so we could come back more easily!

I stayed three nights in Matera from October 22 to 25, 2025, alone. I was met by Giuseppe at the bus station. He took me directly to his accommodation. I was delighted by the place. Giuseppe lives in Matera and offers suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants that delighted me. I greatly enjoyed my visit to the Vicinato a Pozzo site, which shows striking archival films. I loved having breakfast in the inner courtyard adjacent to my room. Coffee, fruit, bread, toast, and pastries were all provided in large quantities. Matera at night is fantastic. A world of its own, calm and serene. I had no fear of walking alone in these places. I warmly recommend the Dimora Dei Mercanti. Thank you, Giuseppe. Danièle from Quebec.

The only thing I would say about our stay, other than that it was wonderful, is that you might mention people need cash to use the shuttle. That probably seems logical, but we almost always use credit cards. Thank you for a great experience. Bob and Ellen Durham.

Everything about this property is first rate. From instructions on how to get there (Matera doesn't allow cars in this area and we had a rental) to helping us print boarding passes, Giuseppe was wonderful. The location is in the heart of Matera with an area for coffee in the morning. There are great restaurants nearby, and it is a cave hotel with a hot tub. It was very clean and bright.
