Description

Before 2017, this building was just an old abandoned "lamione", one of the typical buildings entirely built in tuff stone in Matera. However, today it has been reborn as Casa MATERiA, a unique and special place that offers an extraordinary living and experiential tourism experience focused on art, design, and hospitality. This small accommodation structure has been transformed into a true gallery-house, where guests can not only stay but also immerse themselves in the exhibited artworks and design projects. This new concept of hospitality provides a cultural and creative dimension to guests, making Casa MATERiA an exceptional addition to Matera's cultural heritage.

It was much more than just a simple stay, quiet and very pleasant. It was an experience of cooking, history, and design. The owners are two truly special brothers who make you feel in a new world but in an old-fashioned way. Thank you and we hope to see each other again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Simone and Michele's. Casa Materia is a true architectural gem and is ideally located to explore beautiful Matera. But it's the hosts who bring the final touch. Simone prepares breakfast with great attention to detail. He cooks and makes everything himself with the best ingredients. Michèle and Simone gave us many tips to make the most of our visit and made reservations at the nicest restaurants. No effort is really too much for them. A gourmet address!

Michele and Simone have created a little gem. The location is excellent. Very close to the sassi but a bit secluded. Tranquility reigns supreme. You can feel their passion in every detail: from the clean, linear, design rooms to the very tasty breakfast attentive to the ingredients (Km 0). For tea lovers, there is a little surprise: Simone is a true connoisseur and can offer infusions from around the world. We had 4 fantastic days thanks also to Michele and Simone's directions/advice. We hope to come back soon and stay again at Casa Materia.

The Casa Materia house is a little gem nestled 2 steps away from the sassi of Matera. We stayed there with our 2 older teenagers. Michele and Simone are outstanding hosts and the attention to detail is evident. The breakfast cooked by Simone and the discovery of Michele's works are 2 highlights of our stay. Note that in the 4-person room, the facilities are behind 1 of the 2 rooms without soundproofing... So it's best to stay there with close friends, otherwise among friends, it's better to opt to separate in the 2 rooms of the house. Very good stay for us.

Beautiful location, just steps away from the center. Excellent attention to detail, design, cleanliness, and great care towards guests. Not to forget the breakfast, only fresh and local products, all homemade! I can only recommend.
