Description
Discover the hidden treasure of Kapsott within the ancient palace of the Papagni family, lords of the village of Cittadella, situated at the crossroads of vast fields of centuries-old olive trees in Puglia and the wild Adriatic coast, on the road connecting Gargano to Salento. Step into the secret history of our Art Nouveau residence and cross the threshold of time and tradition for an unforgettable experience.
A characterful residence that is authentic, elegant, ancient, yet with a modern heart.
Like all the most precious treasures, Kapsott reveals itself to those who know how to discover it. The imposing tuff perimeter of Trani welcomes guests with its grand Spanish-style courtyard. The Tuscan arch in stone invites you to pass through the French-style wood paneling of the massive oak door adorned with Art Nouveau wrought iron decorations. As you walk beneath the enchanting inlay marked “1911,” the magic begins, and time stands still in the majestic pavilion hall with its chandelier, rough stonework, and the Puglian stone staircase that leads to the upper floor in a play of light and reflections. The essential decor of the staircase, featuring a classic iron railing, gently leads to the heart of the Kapsott rooms.
Legend has it that when travelers on the Appian Way passed through the ancient district of Cittadella in Bisceglie, they found rest in a grand palace that rose impressively among the fields on a hill overlooking the sea. Impressed by the hospitality of the house, when asked who the owners were, the travelers would receive the answer “Kapsott.” This was the nickname of the Papagni family, lords of Cittadella and owners of extensive estates, olive groves, vineyards, and orchards in the land of Puglia. It is said that the noble Papagni had a habit of walking with their heads down—“kapsott” in the local dialect—studying the soil to determine what crops to plant, as the land was the greatest treasure one could possess.
Built on the foundations of a pre-existing structure by Don Papagni Sergio in 1911, the Cittadella palace still belongs to the descendants of the Papagni family, who, in the name of the hospitality that has always characterized their lineage, decided to restore it, returning it to its early 20th-century splendor while enriching it with cutting-edge comforts and a retro minimalist design. The legend of Kapsott is reborn, and the treasure of the Papagni family unfolds before its guests.
