Description

We are an urban masseria, in an historic residence from the 1700s, with the whole family we take care of our home and just like in an old-time Inn we welcome travelers and locals who want to discover or re-savor the traditions of Salento.

"A Locanda Tù Marchese" has 10 rooms (5 Superior, 1 Suite and 4 Standard) and a underground oil mill which leads to the underground Jacuzzi, obtained from a rainwater collection tank.

At guests' disposal equipped Bikeroom, bicycles with equipment (citybike) and gps tracks of the Serre Salentine (tracks created in collaboration with Bikeitalia) and a small equipped gym.

In our home, "A Locanda tù Marchese", breakfast is the main moment for guests to immerse themselves in scents and traditions. During the winter, breakfast is served in the underground oil mill, in the summer on the terrace, from 8 a. m to 11 p. m.

The skilled hands of my mother Luisa prepare what is offered in the buffet breakfast, on a traditional way and not only: among the many sweet delicacies served, the Pasticciotto is certainly not lacking.

Pasticciotto is a shortcrust pastry of ancient origin, which traditionally contains custard cream, however there are many variations. Fruttone, a sweet from Salento made of shortcrust pastry, is filled with jam and almond paste and covered with chocolate. On the breakfast table of "A Locanda tù Marchese" guests will also find Mustazzoli, almond biscuits with chocolate icing and rustic Pastarelle, breakfast biscuits that mothers from Salento prepared to accompany the big cups of milk.

Fresh and canned fruit, hot drinks, juices and fruit juices, rusks, butter, cereals, homemade jams, honey, yogurt, but also bread, eggs, cheeses and cold cuts complete the breakfast buffet for our guests.

Here the real protagonist is the poor cuisine of the past: the tasty rustic and homemade dishes of the Apulian and Salento tradition are prepared and served here with love. A way to make Salento known, a way to return to smell those scents and taste those flavours, which remind us of our history, our roots.

In addition, the area dedicated to the STEAKHOUSE offers different cuts of local and non-local meats, matured in Dry Aeger (meat maturation), and flavoured with spices, sauces and side dishes.

We produce: salami and cheeses flavored with herbs from our garden, traditional bread and pasta with local grains, cakes, traditional sweets and ice cream, jams and preserves, vegetables from our farm, "Macchie" area.

During the winter, dinner is served in the underground oil mill, in the summer on the terrace.

We are family from Salento! All together, my father Daniele, my mother Luisa, my sister Michela and my grandmother Nonna Tetta, for twenty years we have been taking care of our historic home with rooms and typical restaurant, "A Locanda Tù Marchese".

My father is a professional chef, and after having worked all around Italy, he decided to resume in our restaurant the Salento culinary tradition intertwined with the Messapian one, up to the more particular Matinese.

We like that our guests feel at home and savor and feel in their hearts the "Ciciri e Tria" that I prepare with grandmother Tetta and dad..

Our Locanda is a masseria, but an urban one. We are located in the historic center of Matino, a small village in southern Salento (50km from Lecce; 18km from Gallipoli; 43km from Otranto; 32km from Santa Maria di Leuca).
We are located in Via Del Tufo, 38.
The historic center of Matino is accessible by car, so you can reach the large door of the Locanda to unload your luggage.
For parking we always give our guests some suggestions, as our home does not have a parking area:
- if you arrive by car the nearest and free parking is in Piazza San Giorgio where the Church of San Giorgio is located (better not to park there during the celebration hours); an excellent alternative is to park in via luzzatti (large and free area). Both are a few meters from the Locanda.
- if you arrive before the scheduled time, by contacting us you can join our Experiences and walks around the historical center with a guide.

Greta is nice and very kind, not to mention her sweet and gentle dad who offered us some things from his garden; they also offered us a bottle of prosecco to enjoy with some small plums. Not to mention the original hydromassage! Basically a small cave! We will definitely return because the structure is very old but you feel like you're at home. Terrace restaurant where you can eat homemade food made by them. Everything is wonderful, go to them!

We were a group of 6 people from 27 to 67 years old... and had a lot of fun meeting Greta's family! After an introductory course on Pizzica (the dance of Salento), cheerful and stimulating, given by a young and friendly woman, Giada... we wonderfully ate the local specialties accompanied by tasty wines... and then put into practice the course by dancing to the tunes of the folk musicians. A magnificent evening with welcoming, cheerful, and caring people. The hosts humorously involved us in some songs. Wonderful evening that will stay in our memories and we would love to come back. We enthusiastically recommend the address...
