Description
Il Sanco is a district located in eastern Lessinia, near San Bartolomeo delle Montagne (San Bortolo) in the municipality of Selva di Progno, in the province of Verona.

This district consists of a single residential unit, largely renovated with historically and artistically conservative restoration work carried out in an eco-sustainable manner, using environmentally friendly materials and techniques to restore its original beauty and ensure the long-lasting integrity and health of the masonry structure. The central core is the oldest part, along with the barn and the hayloft above it, dating back to the 17th century; however, the hayloft was completely rebuilt after being destroyed by a fire caused by retreating German military troops during World War II.

On the exterior of the hayloft, there is a votive tablet (icon) from the 17th century depicting four sacred figures: the Madonna with Child, Saint Roch, and Saint Sebastian, who were believed to protect against epidemics (see Surroundings and Culture - popular art).

The section of the building currently used as a holiday home was added in two phases, during the late 1800s and early 1900s, in response to an increase in family members, who in turn formed new families. The easternmost part of the complex, which is of a different ownership, remains separate and is in poor condition.

Hey from Lorenzo

Hello everyone,
After a fairly intense working life, I've chosen to come and live in the mountains permanently. I'm from Verona, the city where I was born and spent a good part of my life, and I've been living in this wonderful place for several years. It's certainly not a lively place for social or recreational activities, and as such, I myself descend into the valley quite frequently, but from a quality of life perspective, it's certainly excellent, as are the locals. You just need to get to know them a little!
A few years ago, I renovated part of the house I live in to make it welcoming for hikers, walkers, wayfarers, and anyone who loves the outdoors.

As a lover of the mountains and mountain life, I like the idea of ??being able to share these spaces with others, both for the landscape and to appreciate the many naturalistic aspects the place offers..
