Hostel In the heart of Val Di Cornia Parks.

Student’s Hostel Gowett is located in a prestigious building of the last century, built from the English administrations of Val di Cornia mines.

The property boasts a strategic position that allows visitors to enjoy an enchanting area of Tuscany, where nature and history merge in a stunning landscape.

Today it is a modern Youth Hostel ranging 100 beds available either in double rooms or 4/6 bed dorms.

All rooms are ensuite and suitable for all travellers.

The Restaurant Della Rocca, inside Gowett Hostel, offers you the delicious food specialities from the typical regional cousine of Tuscany, Emilia Romagna and Sicily, prepared by our Chef Bollito, ready to delight the most refined tastes with his culinary art.

Situated in the St. Silvestro Archaeominenary Park, where the homonymous Medieval Rock and Temperino Mine are set, it is less than 5km far from the seaside of San Vincenzo and Donoratico.

Val di Cornia naturalistic-archaelogical parks (Baratti and Populonia) are easily reachable from the hostel

Breakfast is served on the ground floor and in the garden during the summer, from 7:30 am to 10:00 am. You will find espresso, cappuccino, hot milk, butter, jams, biscuits, snacks, cereal, at least two fruit juices of your choice, and mineral water.

Ristorante

The Santa Barbara Restaurant is located in an architectural building, which has been restored, dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries. It served as a service building for mining activities that were experiencing a renewed expansion at that time. The current bar-restaurant Santa Barbara (along the Temperino ditch) was once a long building used as a stable and warehouse (you can also see a water tank), built in the late 1800s. The restaurant has 70 indoor seats and around a hundred more in the new outdoor seating area covered by shaded sails.

We thank you for choosing us. Thanks to you, our Cooperative is able to continue cultivating the dream of a sustainable and solidary economy, capable of producing full and good employment and therefore freedom for individuals.

Our enterprise began in 2003 when we were a group of university students eager to break free from the social blackmail that suffocates young Sicilians. With the collaboration of the Regional Office for the Right to Study at the University of Palermo, we experimented with the management of student housing under the brand "Student's Hostel" to offer hospitality to thousands of young travelers visiting the city during the summer.

Since 2008, after winning a public tender for the management of the municipal hostel in the city of Ferrara, the Ballarò cooperative has arrived in Emilia Romagna and the following year in Tuscany, managing the hostel of Palazzo Gowett in Campiglia Marittima (LI).

In 2011, we also took over the management of the Ghiara Hostel in Reggio Emilia, to which we soon added a restaurant activity in the homonymous cloister, opening it to the city as a meeting place for culture and among cultures.

Today, the Coop Ballarò also manages the Casa Senza Frontiere (bio-architectural structure) of the Municipality of Ferrara and the Residence "Le Benedettine" under concession from the University of Pisa.

Over the years, our cooperative has enriched itself with new members from the different territories in which it operates and works: we have associated four new cooperators residing in Reggio Emilia and we employ other young and less young non-Sicilians in each of our offices.

An oasis of peace, located inside an archaeological-mining park with a spectacular view of the Rocca di San Silvestro. We stayed only one night with breakfast(thanks for the kindness regarding the misunderstanding about half-board). If we return to the area, we will definitely come back to you!

I used a hostel for the first time, but this structure is very close to a hotel as well. The double bed room is very spacious with an equally spacious bathroom. I couldn't have breakfast only because I had to leave at 05.30 in the morning. Overall, the judgment is positive.

The location of the hostel allows you to fully enjoy a pleasant climate even during the month of August. During the stay, you benefit from peace and tranquility. The room is essential but comfortable and bright with the advantage of a balcony from which you can enjoy the view of the beautiful surrounding landscape. Excellent choice to include fresh cakes made in the structure's kitchen in the breakfast.

Gentilissima, purtroppo ci sono cose che è possibile fare e altre che non lo sono. Ho visto dai suoi giudizi specifici che ha assegnato un punteggio basso alla colazione e al wi-fi: 1 - Nel caso della colazione, ahimè, con le norme anticovid non è possibile fare di più. Stiamo già facendo un grossissimo sforzo. Abbiamo una persona ad assistervi e un buffet di dolci freschi. Purtroppo la fila è obbligatoria e le quantità in prima battute sono limitate al vassoio. Potevate tornare indietro e rifare la fila. Capisco la scocciatura, ma non so davvero come ovviare. 2 - Il wifi. Pure se avessimo una rete capillarmente diffusa in tutto l'ostello ci sarebbero grossi problemi. A monte di qualsiasi rete ci deve essere un accesso ad internet e nella posizione in cui si trova l'ostello possiamo solo avere una Adsl di Telecom a 4mb. Avere un wifi diffuso e capillare peggiorerebbe solamente la situazione. Non vi sono altre soluzioni. CI troviamo in un cono tra monte Calvi e la Rocca di San Silvestro per il quale anche le connessione satellitari o via radio, purtroppo non arrivano. Unica soluzione e Telecom adsl a 4mb. Spiacenti!

Considering the beautiful location and the remarkable potential of the property, by taking better care of some details, the pleasantness of the stay would greatly improve. Some examples: better lighting in the bathrooms and rooms, more thorough cleaning, provision of bedside tables and shower mats. That said, breakfasts are good and plentiful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the evening dinner is also excellent.

Nice facility and welcoming staff. Recommended. Suggestion: Pay attention to the road signs as maps mistakenly take you on a dirt road. The road to reach the Student's Hostel Gowett is completely paved.

The structure is very beautiful, immersed in a stunning park, at night you can see the stars very well! Close to the main beaches and villages in the area. The managers are very kind and helpful. The breakfast is really abundant, the only flaw perhaps, for us who are sensitive, is the use of many disposable single portions, maybe due to the new anti-Covid regulations. We had a great time! Recommended!

Alessio & Antonella are exquisite and always available people, they manage the accommodation facility with professionalism and attention. I had already been their guest and the choice was positively rewarded by the magical place where to rest and enjoy the view among the greenery and the sound of birds in the morning. Kind and helpful reception. Great breakfast. I will return for the next stays in the area.

I came with two friends for a weekend, and we had a very good time, it is very spartan (as indeed a hostel should be) but comfortable. Maybe some details should be taken care of more, like the shower mat, to avoid flooding everything. But, as I said, they are details. I will definitely come back.

The location of the structure is spectacular: immersed in nature and isolated from the rest of the world (but reachable in just 10 minutes by car, if you really miss it). Excellent hospitality from the manager: he understood our needs (two small children) and gave us advice and directions on places to see and local venues to frequent, which were truly appreciated.
