Description
Nestled in the fragrance of roses and flowers, Villa Aguglie rests on a gentle slope overlooking the surrounding countryside.

Guests can enjoy views stretching all the way to the Mediterranean, fading into a landscape of carob trees and dry-stone walls.

The villa’s interiors offer an atmosphere rooted in tradition, where furnishings blend harmoniously with decorative elements and the local architectural style.

In front of the villa, a swimming pool has been created, complete with a spacious, fully furnished sunbathing area.

Next to the pool lies the ancient threshing floor, featuring a barbecue area. The villa’s Arab-inspired style evokes a sense of timelessness, as if time itself had paused within its high surrounding walls.

From Villa Aguglie, it is easy to reach the Baroque towns of Modica, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli, and Noto, as well as the archaeological sites of Kamarina and Cava Ispica. The nearby beaches are less than 8 km away.

The surrounding countryside offers scenic nature trails winding through farmhouses, quarries, and streams, not to mention the Vendicari Nature Reserve and the Irminio River estuary.

The villa is spread over two floors: the upper floor is the main residence, while the ground floor is rented exclusively to a single group of guests. The spaces are arranged into several independent rooms, each with a private bathroom, ensuring comfort and privacy for large families or groups of friends while maintaining the unity of the residence. There are also areas suitable for preparing simple meals inside the house. The ground floor is rented in its entirety for a minimum of 10 guests, with access from the Arab-style garden, rich in flowers year-round and citrus trees.

This 19th-century property features thick walls that help keep the interiors pleasantly cool. Some rooms are equipped with air conditioning, while others have ceiling fans. The villa has been restored with careful respect for the architectural characteristics of 19th-century buildings: the original pitch-stone floors have been preserved, and where present, the ceiling frescoes have been restored.

The furnishings have also been carefully restored so as not to alter the charm of this historic residence.

The villa is located approximately 4 km from the baroque town of Modica, in the Aguglie district.

The entrance to the villa is easily identifiable due to the monumental columns decorated with noble coats of arms that bear two characteristic spires at the top, which not only give the villa its name but also mark the district.

If coming from Catania, it is recommended to take state road no. 194 to Modica, then continue on state road 115 to Ispica. At km 4. 00 from Modica (at the "Beneventano" intersection), continue on the provincial road to Pozzallo and about 100 m on the right side of the road, you can access the villa through an entrance adorned with large columns.

Almost all maps indicate the site of the villa as "Case Aguglie".

What guests say

Travelers consistently praise the villa’s excellent location for exploring nearby towns and beaches, as well as the charm and character of this well-restored old country estate, set in a beautiful and well-kept garden with a pleasant swimming pool. The accommodation is described as very clean, simple but welcoming, with essential comforts. Guests highlight the genuine hospitality and helpfulness of the host, Ester. Main areas for improvement include the basic and somewhat dated kitchen equipment, lack of some appliances, and absence of air conditioning (a fan is provided). The property is best suited to those seeking peace, nature, and an authentic atmosphere; having a car is recommended.

You will need a car if you stay here. The location was excellent for visiting a lot of interesting towns and beaches. It is a beautiful old country villa which has been lovingly restored and has a well-kept and attractive garden. The host Ester is a friendly lady who tried to help with any problems, lending us a beach umbrella, which was really needed. There is no view from the apartment, as the walls of the garden are too high. If the apartment were on the 1st floor, there would be excellent views available, but the 1st floor was not available to guests. The apartment has a kitchen that is only just usable. For the price, I expected a much higher quality of cooking utensils. The pots and pans should have been thrown out years ago, lots of old tired aluminum pans/frying pans. There was no proper kettle to boil water. The fridge was large and modern, but there was no oven, grill, microwave, or coffee machine. As no breakfast was offered, we would have appreciated better apartment facilities. The bedroom has a good fan, but no air con. It was just about okay without it. The bathroom is small with a small shower, but was adequate for us. Two definite advantages are the secure car parking and the very nice swimming pool. All in all, we enjoyed our time here, just the cooking was a problem. If you eat out then it won't bother you.

We stayed at Villa Aguglie at the end of August 2020 with our three children. We have a very pleasant memory of that week. The apartments are simple but cozy, well-kept, and some even decorated. The garden is wonderful for the scents, flower beds, fruit trees, the greenery, and the tranquility it instills. The pool is beautiful, almost for personal use, alternating with other guests. The location is excellent for visiting the surrounding areas: Modica, Ragusa, Noto, Syracuse, the many beautiful seaside places. Lastly, but not least, we want to thank Mrs. Ester who welcomed us with marked kindness, culture, and availability.

I would first like to specify the type of the structure: Villa Aguglie, an 19th-century villa located between Pozzallo and Modica in a pleasant setting where nature reigns supreme. The villa is in excellent condition, admiring it is a pleasure for the eyes. As soon as you enter the courtyard, it feels like being in another era, pots full of plants and flowers intoxicate the senses. The apartment, essential but equipped with all comforts, is furnished with taste respecting the environment of the Villa in which it is located. The pool in front of the Villa is the perfect place to relax and regenerate. But special praise goes to the hostess Esther who made us feel at home in every way and keeps the villa a beautiful place.
