The design of the property

Description

Tenuta Zannafondo is dipped into a carobs and secular olives wood and it is placed into the Ibleo altopiano at an altitude of 400 metres between Ragusa and Marina di Ragusa and at few kilometres from the sea. The landscape encloses the coast and an uncontaminated area that is neatly marked by the “muri a secco” and by the wonderful farms built with white stone.

Zannafondo estate is a refined Bed and Breakfast consists of two old rural stone blocks dating back to 1800 that had been carefully restored treating with care the old structure and the original materials like the old pitch stone floor.

It has seven rooms for a total of 18 beds, all furnished with fine furniture typical Sicilian.

The breakfast Tenuta Zannafondo is one that you do not forget, the various cakes, pistachio, pear and chocolate or orange or the tart with ricotta cheese or jam and almonds, or "hot cassatelle" freshly baked ricotta as well as the many varieties of cookies and other delicacies, all prepared with fresh ingredients from a buffet in the common room or outdoor terraces with views of the countryside of Ragusa.

Here, the main elements of the Mediterranean Diet are still produced using ancient cultivation methods, which is why it is rightfully considered a UNESCO World Heritage. Ivana offers guests her own Iblea version of this cuisine, including famous focaccias, arancini, pasta with sardines, and wild fennel picked right outside her door. At Tenuta Zannafondo, breakfast is an unforgettable experience, featuring warm ricotta and freshly milked milk from a nearby "masseria," as well as "Ragusano DOP" cheese, delicious carob honey from the estate, and freshly baked "cassatelle," cakes, and pies made with fresh and genuine ingredients.

Elio and Ivana, that loves this land. Elio is a draughtsman of the restauration and he works in an architecture studio and he had taken part in a restauration of many Unesco monuments and sites in the Iblea area. Elio knows perfectly this area and he is a good guide for everyone wants to visit it. Elios’ wife is a good cook and she loves the specialities and old recipes. She utilizes the natural food products of the Zannafondo estate guaranteeing to own guests an appetizing wine and food experience.

Well-managed, clean and tidy property in a quiet area. Space available for parking and accommodating small pets. Excellent welcome from the owners, breakfast with genuine, high-quality products, served on a nice little terrace. We stayed for just one night, but we also recommend it for longer stays.

We have been coming back to Tenuta Zannafondo for several years now where we are always welcomed with the warmth of the Sicilian spirit. The gentle breeze that never fails, the sunsets that are enjoyed, and above all the possibility of being sheltered from the crowd of the seaside town make the place unique. I want to emphasize the exceptional quality of the breakfast, both for the terrace where it is served and for the goodness of the cakes and biscuits strictly homemade. In short, a magical place that immediately makes you feel nostalgic when you return home.

What can I say? It was a surprise, a very pleasant surprise! Away from the streets and crowded roads, you can enjoy absolute tranquility. Halfway between Ragusa and its marina, you can easily reach the two locations and the main tourist destinations of the Val di Noto. Rooms tailored to the stay, nothing is missing at breakfast (although the "salty" offering could be varied as is done with the sweet part); the hosts: available, friendly, and caring. We must not forget to mention the lady's cakes. Improving the road signs to find this authentic "gem" in the open countryside. Highly recommended.

I was contacted almost immediately after my report and in the end we managed to find a room for the week of Ferragosto, even though the standard ones were sold out we had to take a superior one with a view, a bit more expensive but very impressive. Tenuta Zannafondo is a little paradise in the Ragusan countryside, with a sea view even if in the distance. The brand new and well-kept apartments still have all the charm of stone and Sicily. Courteous owners, delicious cake breakfasts, and cute little animals on site. It would lack a swimming pool, but considering everything else, it can be overlooked. Very good value for money. I will return if and when I can.

The Tenuta Zannafondo is a very well-kept place while maintaining a strong connection with the wonderful surrounding nature and respecting the original structure of the farmhouse. The owners are very helpful and at the same time discreet. We hope to return soon to stay there!
