Description

Pensione Tranchina is not a hotel in the usual sense. It's a family home in the quiet centre of Scopello — a small stone village above the Sicilian coast — where guests are welcomed with a generosity and attention that many places have forgotten.

Run by the Tranchina family since 1974.

Evenings begin with a complimentary aperitivo — a chance to meet fellow travellers and share stories from the day. Then a traditional Sicilian dinner that changes every night.

Mornings bring a generous breakfast: local ricotta, seasonal fruit, jams made from oranges grown in the garden by the hotel, fresh bread, and strong coffee.

Recognised over the years by Michelin, Slow Food, and The Guardian — not for finery, but for honest quality and care.

Rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Two offer private balconies with sea views — worth requesting early.

Drive to the door to drop your bags, then park a short walk away. Coast on foot. Zingaro under 2 km.

Some guests come once. Many come back.

Breakfast here is not an afterthought — it's one of the reasons guests remember their stay.

Sweet and savoury, every morning. Homemade cakes. Fresh seasonal fruit. Jams made from citrus grown in the garden in front of the hotel — oranges, lemons, clementines — and from our own fig and pear trees.

Local honey. Cured meats. Fresh bread baked that day. Sicilian cheeses from nearby Segesta, including fresh sheep ricotta. Olive oil from our own harvest.

A real Sicilian breakfast — generous, unhurried, and made with ingredients we know and trust.

Restaurant

Dinner begins before you sit down.

Each evening starts with a complimentary aperitivo — a chance to settle in, meet other guests, and share stories from the day over a glass of wine and bruschetta with tapenade from our own olives.

The menu is fixed and changes every night. This is deliberate. Everything is cooked fresh that day — nothing sits waiting in a kitchen. Less waste, better ingredients, food that tastes the way it should.

A first course from Sicilian tradition — pasta with Trapanese pesto, sardines and fennel, or our own take on pasta alla norma.

A second course of fish: tuna, sea bream, prawns — but also the humbler catches that are central to Sicilian cooking, like sardines a beccafico and silver scabbardfish. Dishes you won't always find elsewhere. Meat and vegetarian options always available.

Dessert closes the meal.

Traditional cooking, generous portions, family recipes, no shortcuts. This is not hotel dining. It's a family table, and you're welcome at it.

We don't serve lunch — your days are free for the coast, the trails, and Sicilian street food: cunzato bread, arancini, sfincione, panelle.

Exceptional stay in Scopello. A guesthouse like they don't make anymore! Lovely welcome and in French, aperitif in the evening on the square with the guesthouse hosts. Cuisine of incredible finesse focused on seafood and km 0 products. Everything here is homemade. Extraordinary breakfast. Large sea-view room. We will return without hesitation.

This is a small but delightful B&B that also offers dinner. We were too late arriving to enjoy an evening meal, but it looked and smelled gorgeous. The room was a small ensuite, but very comfortable. The staff are lovely, and every table at breakfast had its own selection brought to the table, which is better than a buffet that is often blitzed by the early arrivals.

Absolutely stunning! Words cannot describe how glad we were to have found this outstanding gem in Scopello. We stayed for two nights and were able to check in an hour earlier as expected. The owners were very welcoming and provided us with useful information regarding recommendations, directions to the beaches and equipment like beach towels, snorkeling gear and umbrellas. The room was very clean and had a beautiful balcony with sea view. We would definitely recommend booking the homemade breakfast and dinner too because it was some of the best food we had in Sicily. During the meals the owners create a warmhearted atmosphere, explaining the menu and recipes at each table. They also helped us a lot with organising a transfer to the next location as our train was cancelled at the last minute. In summary, this is a 10000/10 and we would definitely book this hotel again and recommend it to all of our friends and family.

Our room was very clean, the bed linen smelled nice. Many details were considered, such as many hanging and storage options. The breakfast was unique. You could taste the freshness of the food and the creativity of the hosts. The same goes for the dinner, which we can also highly recommend. The warm service and the attention one received were very high. In the last few days, I talked a lot about this accommodation in my surroundings. I have certainly visited more luxurious accommodations than this one, yet none has left such a lasting impression as this Pension, which looks simple at first glance. I hope the owner can continue to run the Pension with these high standards for a long time. She has been running this small Pension for 42 years. We will definitely come back. Thanks to the entire team.

Everything is done at Pensione Tranchina so that one feels at home, from delicious homemade meals to Madame Tranchina who welcomes us with a smile, always a word for each of her guests. All the staff is as kind and welcoming as she is. The location is great; both for the beaches nearby and for explorations in the nature reserve or elsewhere. It is hard to leave!

I would be tempted to give them a 1-star rating so people do not go to this gem of a place and I may have better chances to find a room if I want to return! Everything was perfect, from the reception of the manager to the cleanliness of the rooms, the wonderful dinner (tell them in advance if you want to eat there), and the convenient location to visit Scopello (it takes about 15 minutes), walk to the Tonnara or drive to other places. Beautiful.

If you put Pensione Tranchina's superb location aside, nestled underneath Sicily's renowned Zingaro Nature reserve, its prize is the team that runs the hotel in all quarters. Multi-speaking Marisin, owner and tour de force, is calibrated to all customers' needs of any culture. The establishment is simply laid out, very clean and refreshing to the eye. At the front of house, Cecilia, Maria, and Ingrid take pride in their work, detailing each component of the organic meals presented and the range of good Sicilian wines. The cook, Lucia, deserves a special mention and in my opinion is worthy of a Michelin star. I look forward to returning in the spring to witness Zingaro's inspiring floral display and the plethora of bird species that grace its land, but as a food buff, Pensione Tranchina is its crowning glory.

The breakfast each morning was healthy, homemade and delicious. The hosts were gracious, helpful and cheerful. The accommodations were comfortable and aesthetically appealing. The location was convenient as well as beautiful as well as close to the nature, reserve and other gorgeous swimming areas and hikes. This B and B offers the guest the option to dine there for about what you would pay at a nice restaurant and the food is healthy and good. Fresh fish, fresh vegetables, good wine, and you get to sit with the other guests who you are becoming familiar with, and it's a very uplifting atmosphere.

I had the pleasure of staying at Pensione Tranchina from the 1st to the 8th of October. I was made to feel incredibly welcome by Marisan and her team, the food was excellent (I booked dinner for 2 nights), all local produce, freshly made and delicious. The location is perfect and parking and getting to Scopello were made even easier by the instructions sent to me in advance of my stay regarding where I could park, it was so straightforward and thoughtful. The hotel and rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and everything you would need was there, hairdryer, safe, fridge, etc. Even beach towels and umbrellas were provided, so it made the beach days so easy! I highly recommend a stay here, everything was thought through, everyone was friendly, and the village was just the perfect place to base yourself for traveling to stunning beaches, heritage sites, and nearby places of interest. I will definitely be returning for another stay.

The Pensione Tranchina is a wonderful place to stay. It is located in the heart of Scopello small centre and walking distance to the sea. The rooms are really nice, very clean and spacious. We had a room with a window looking at the mountain and I couldn't believe how beautiful it was when looking through it at different times. Marisin, Cecilia, Indre and the whole team are very welcoming and you can see that they are looking at all the details. Breakfast there was amazing. One night we had the dinner that they offered: we loved it as well. As much as they can, they use local products and they dedicate time to explain you what the products are and where they come from. They have parking as well or let you know where to park. It is really an excellent place to stay. An Italian friend recommended it to us and we can't be more grateful. We want to recommended it to others as well.

What a great pension. The host, Maraisin, and her team bring such a warm welcoming. We were given helpful local information and always with a smile. The room was clean and nicely furnished. The breakfast was fantastic and featured fresh local produce that Maraisin explained comes from her garden or her friends. A booking was made at a restaurant and wow, we had first class views. The town of Scopello is small and cute and Pensione Tranchina is in the heart of the village and close to beaches and the national park. The personal touch is a highlight of this pension. We highly recommend a stay.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel, and if I had to describe it in one word, it would be generosity. Our room, Room 10, on the top floor, offered a stunning sea view, making it a perfect spot to relax. The staff were unbelievably kind and generous throughout our stay. From complimentary sun umbrellas and beach towels to helpful advice on local attractions, their attention to detail was exceptional. The homemade breakfast served every morning was simply delicious. Special mention goes to Cecilia, our incredibly warm and attentive hostess – she truly went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. We also dined at the hotel every night, enjoying a set menu that was both delicious and reasonably priced, with a new menu each day. The atmosphere was wonderfully sociable, with the hotel offering a complimentary glass of wine before dinner, giving us a chance to chat with other guests. It truly felt like staying in a family home. I cannot recommend this hotel enough – many, many thanks for such an unforgettable experience!

The structure is located inside the village of Scopello, small but very characteristic, and close to the splendid Zingaro Nature Reserve, also reachable on foot from the structure. Other beautiful coves are also reachable in about twenty minutes on foot. We ate very well, abundant and savory breakfast with local zero km products and exquisite dinners based on fish and typical dishes.

What a fantastic find! We were in Scopello for 3 days for a family wedding and came upon this Pensione when trawling the internet. The owner Maracin and her team are all so friendly and helpful, the location is perfect, our room was spotless and well appointed! The breakfast was wonderful, home made cakes and jams, with lovely bread/cheese, fruit and meats. Parking was easy, just a few minutes walk away. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

What a wonderful and welcoming little oasis in beautiful Scopello. Situated in the middle of the village (parking a bit away), view over the roofs to the open sea. Helpful and very lovely owners, spacious and clean traditional rooms - with incredibly comfy pillows. Food - wow. Location - wonderful. People - lovely. Will definitely be back soon.

My stay at the Tranchina B&B in Scopello was simply wonderful. The location couldn't be better – right in the heart of this picturesque town. The decor is simple yet incredibly cozy and inviting. The owners and staff are exceptionally friendly, attentive, and helpful. Every one of my needs was immediately met, and you can tell that hospitality is a top priority here. The food was particularly impressive: it comes either from local sources or is homemade. Simply perfect! I highly recommend this B&B to everyone.

Excellent and the most delicious breakfast I had in the whole of Sicily. Very clean and centrally located property. Marisin is such an excellent, cheerful and helpful host. Will definitely stay here again.

Marisana and her team were incredibly friendly and helpful during our stay, making us feel right at home in this building, which is essentially her home. We had a wonderful stay here! The rooms are comfortable and clean, the breakfast is delicious, and we took advantage of the complimentary towels and umbrellas for a day at a nearby beach.

Excellent in every regard, location, comfort, cleanliness, and the food (dinner and breakfast) which was mostly sourced locally, was fantastic. The host was very friendly and very welcoming. No need to look further if you are in this area, I doubt you will find better accommodation.

This is a place you think of when you want to get away to Sicily, relax, enjoy good food and meet new friends. The location is perfect, the tiny town of Scopello is charming and enchanting. I can't wait to return.

This bed and breakfast is clean, pretty, and very close to restaurants and a short walk or drive to the sea. But what makes this place extra special is the hospitality of the owner and staff, they are absolutely lovely - so helpful. The food is also a huge draw card, as they value great quality local produce. Some nights they offer a 3-course home-cooked meal on the premises, which I strongly recommend - it was delicious!

Marisin was a wonderful host during our stay at Pensione Tranchina. She was attentive to our questions, engaging, and she and her staff provided local tips for our trips. The breakfasts were a special treat, with local ingredients and cappuccino every morning. For an extra cost, dinner was also provided. Those were also wonderful dishes of local Sicilian cuisine. We are happy to have stayed at Pensione Tranchina.

We trusted the reviews and we were not disappointed! The owner Marisin is very attentive and friendly: for example, she explained to us how to access the beaches (where we could bring the towels and umbrellas she provided). Pensione Tranchina is located in the heart of the village of Scopello, we could not have wished for a better location to arrive by bus (via russo servizi), explore the coast, visit the reserve or go out for dinner. It is warm and finely decorated, you can meet other travelers in the dining room. The room was perfect! Very clean, functional (air conditioning, fridge, bathroom, shampoo and shower gel, cleaning every morning, soft towels and sheets!) and extremely pleasant after a long day. The breakfast is very generous, Marisin always makes sure you have enough to satisfy your hunger. Fresh fruits and cheeses accompanied by jam, bread, ricotta, cold cuts, honey, the drink of your choice. Very well-kept, we really enjoyed it! In short, what can we say... these two nights in Scopello were the most relaxing of our trip. Thank you for everything!
