Description
Just a few steps away from the San Giorgio Cathedral and very close to the main street of the city, the house still preserves typical decorations and flooring from the past. In particular, in the room that used to host noble parties, which is now our reading and relaxation room, you can admire a magnificent flooring made of hand-painted ceramics from Caltagirone.
The entire living area is enriched by a large and panoramic balcony, which allows our guests to enjoy a splendid view over one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city.
A characteristic courtyard that smells of jasmine serves as an entrance and the entire structure is inserted in a quiet and relaxing context.
The rooms, bright and panoramic, simple but cozy, have recently been decorated by artists who wanted to leave their mark here.
We have nine rooms arranged on different levels. Spacious and bright, they are all different from each other and enjoy a magnificent view over one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city.

Rosellina, Graziana, Carmela and Thomas are looking forward to your visit.
In 1998 a group of young entrepeneurs refurbished an abandoned palazzo from early 1900 and brought it back to life as a boarding house, creating Modica’s first non-hotel lodging facilities.
From the beginning they were fascinated by the overgrown premises, the captivating view over old roof tiles, and of course the story of the building and its roots in the local sicilian culture. Soon after the first opening in June of 1999 it became clear that “I tetti di Siciliando”, as it was called, had the potential for great success, but also required continuous hard work. In the following years there were plenty of wonderful experiences, enthusiastic moments and satisfying outcomes.
As of today the staff consists of founder Rosellina, co-host Graziana, room attendant Carmela, and Rosellina’s German husband Thomas, responsible for website and marketing.
We are all travellers by heart and know that friendly reception, good tips and professional service can vastly improve the experience of being on the road, ideally to the point of having a home away from home. In addition, the continuous contact with our guests gives us the wonderful opportunity to see our hometown with the eyes of a traveller, rediscover local attractions, festivals and restaurants, and continue to improve our service and hospitality.

Our house is located in an ideal position, right in the heart of the historic center, yet very close to the bus station and one of the main access roads to the city. Within walking distance of the Duomo di San Giorgio and the Duomo di San Pietro, you can take a wonderful panoramic walk towards Modica Alta, admiring numerous Baroque palaces, until you reach Pizzo Belvedere, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city. Then, you can descend through the narrow streets and alleys towards Modica Bassa, where you will find numerous chocolate shops, bars, restaurants, and trattorias.

This establishment is very delicate. The staff is very attentive, especially Carmela is truly delightful, caring, and professional. The scent of jasmine and the jams at breakfast (in an old noble ballroom) make it all very enjoyable. A magical place!

Very convenient for reaching the center on foot, also with easy parking nearby. Good breakfast with homemade products, the fig cake and lemon jam are excellent. The owner is very polite and helpful. Room needs improvement, especially the bathroom, but it was still clean and spacious. I assume we were staying on the floor of the structure that is still to be restored.

This is an excellent place to stay for a short visit to Modica. The room opens up to a panoramic view of one side of Modica Alta. They are simple rooms but have everything one needs, and the beds are comfortable. The hosts are very nice and friendly and offered cheese and prosciutto in addition to typical Sicilian cake for breakfast, which was a very nice touch. Highly recommended.
