Description

BAD is the first designer Bed & Breakfast in the heart of Catania. Much more than a simple B&B, it is a unique mix of hospitality and creativity, ideal for both those travelling for pleasure and for business. It unites the fascinating Catanese baroque architecture with contemporary art and design.

At BAD one breathes the creativity of Giulia and Alessandro, the two owners and curators. Professionals in the world of advertising and graphic design, they have expertly created within the ample and comfortable rooms different ambiences, exhibiting psychedelic wallpapers, amazing 19th Century Sicilian artifacts, vintage furniture and works of young aspiring artists.

Every room of the B&B in fact has a different mood, colour and feeling, with two or three beds, private bathroom and naturally all the comforts you would expect.

Because BAD is more than a sleeping experience.

BAD is in the beating heart of Catania: in a XIX century building, next to the historical fish market “la Pescheria” and within a stone’s throw of the Cathedral and main monuments of the city. Furthermore BAD is only a few minutes away from the airport, the train station and the port, and just 100 meters from a bus station which connects to other main Sicilian resorts.

We booked this B&B at the last moment because another reservation in a different accommodation was cancelled. The B&B is very close to the center, a stone's throw from Via Etnea and the Cathedral. Unfortunately, the property is not very nice, the walls are made of plasterboard (so you could hear a lot of noise from above and laterally), large bathroom but very small shower, very old building needing maintenance. Air conditioning is present and working, clean linen. Poor cleanliness of the premises. Self-service breakfast, with milk, fruit juices, yogurt, snacks, tea, coffee machine, etc. The owner is helpful and kind. The price for the area is really low so maybe we couldn't expect more. Another thing, the room we were given did not match the photos on the website. Were the other rooms better than ours?

The 'BAD - B&B and design' did not have toilet paper. The whole place was smelling of Arabic cigarettes, which was so strong and awful. So noisy - we could not sleep. So dusty. It was not good at all.

5 minutes from one of the historical squares of the city and a bus station, always impeccable welcome with great ease in arriving and leaving the room. Clean rooms with original decor. All this invites you to come back often to visit Catania and its surroundings or to make a stop between the airport and the Aeolian Islands.

Great location, friendly staff, beautiful rooms (room number 2 has a fantastic shower!). Breakfast is served in a bar at Piazza Duomo, a short distance from BAD - B&B and design.

The main feature of this B&B, beyond the particular decoration, is the strategic and very quiet location, just a few steps from the historic center and in front of the fish market. Moreover, the people who will welcome you are truly kind and helpful, ready to answer any of your questions and solve any problems. The structure is very clean! The only drawback is the bathrooms.
