Description

Il Ghiro Bed & Breakfast is a small three-storey house, built between the 18th and 19th Century, located in the old part of town.

Our family became owner of it when our grandfather bought it in the 20th Century and opened a tailor’s workshop at the ground floor. The house has been restructured in conformity with the precepts of bio-building. From the window you can see the central square dai Baruffi with its huge ficus trees, where old people and children sit together spending their time in quiet. The artists' Home.

The rooms are nice and comfortable, endowed with bathroom and air-conditioning.

The price includes carlofortino breakfast with typical foodstuffs: canestrelli and gallette. (Vegan friendly - Vegetarian friendly). Surprise "Breakfast with the Commander" Our father Antonio Casanova, who will tell legends and anecdotes of our magical island. Vegatarian friendly. Bike Friendly & Bicycle-friendly.

Hello, we are Bruno and Salvatore, the heart and soul of Ghiro. Our family became the owner of the house in the middle of the last century when our grandfather Bruno, a young tailor, bought it and established a tailoring shop on the ground floor and a residence on the upper floors. Since 2004, we have transformed the property into a bed and breakfast.

The story of Carloforte is the tale of the colonization of the island of San Pietro. In 1738, some families from Pegli who had already settled on the Tunisian island of Tabarka in the 1500s, arrived on the uninhabited island of San Pietro with the permission of the Sardinian-Piedmontese king, Carlo Emanuele III.

The town still exudes the atmosphere of the ancient Ligurian tradition, preserved in its dialect, gastronomy, and architecture. The ghiro (a narrow alley) is located in the central Republic Square at the corner of Solferino Street, where the Archiottu, an ancient passage leading to the fortified citadel, is located. This is one of the most striking and appreciated views by visitors. From here, you can access the Cassinee, a characteristic neighborhood from which you can easily reach the civic museum.

Solferino Street also has another peculiar feature: it is the only road that has retained the old pavement, recently renovated, which covered the streets of the town with the so-called Rissò (round stones).

Salvatore and Bruno, two brothers, have charmingly restored their grandfather's house. They are very welcoming and friendly. Salvatore speaks French perfectly. A very good place.

We stayed for three nights in this really nice place in the center of Carloforte. The room with the bunk bed has a small balcony overlooking the central square, very picturesque. We felt at home thanks to the hospitality and kindness of the owners and the attention to detail, including the excellent breakfast with typical products from the Carloforte area. We will definitely be back soon! ❤️

Everything poetic. The colors of 'Il Ghiro' cure the Good mood. The perfect moment is breakfast time in the square. The only praise for the effort is linked to the spiral staircase to reach the rooms with Japanese opening. We loved it.

Finally I met him! I courted him for a long time, attracted by its vibrant colors and original yet authentic style, but it was always full! I spent two pleasant nights and it did not disappoint my expectations at all. In fact! There is a lively, real, and intense atmosphere. I felt well received by the attentions of Rossella and Bruno, who offered me a healthy and abundant breakfast with delicious homemade products. Top! I just missed a slightly softer and cuddly pillow.

At Il Ghiro you experience living in a real Carloforte house, impeccable service and well-kept and clean rooms. Every piece of furniture and object recalls the tradition and culture of the place. We stayed at this property for three nights and it was a pleasant surprise. The B&B is located in the heart of the ancient village. All the furniture is well-kept and never random. Through the thick walls and the beams of the past, the memories of three generations come alive, and that's why it's not an anonymous place. Bruno is a friendly and helpful guy who kept us company during the excellent and healthy breakfast with local products. Thanks to him, we entered the magical world of this paradise island! If you really want to find a small downside, I would say that perhaps people who struggle to sleep could have some trouble falling asleep due to the noises coming from the square. However, the windows are well isolated. We will definitely come back if we are ever in Carloforte again!

I stayed at the Il Ghiro property for a day and I was thoroughly satisfied. The property is located on the main square of the town, easily reachable on foot from the ferry terminal and the bus stop to the beaches. The interior is tastefully decorated with attention to detail, the cleanliness is commendable, and the breakfast is exceptional. In addition to being abundant, it is based on local zero-kilometer products, including wild blackberry jam, yogurt, and sweets made directly by the owners. Bruno, the owner, was kind and helpful. The only downside for those with light sleep, like me, is the excessive noise coming from the square below due to the chatter of people until late at night and the vendors setting up the Sunday morning market at dawn. Still an experience to be repeated! Highly recommended.

Excellent structure, very central, super clean, manager really helpful, also recommended a restaurant for the evening, a pity we didn't try the breakfast! However, they offered us ecological coffee a couple of times. Thank you Tore, see you next time.

I loved the time I could stay at Il Ghiro. It was much more than a bed and breakfast. If I needed something I could ask any time. If I wanted no contact it was accepted, if I wanted a little chat it was also possible. Thank you, Il Ghiro, for this wonderful time at Carloforte. It would not have been the same without Il Ghiro.

It is recommended for its central location, for the atmospheric furnishings, and for the perfect cleanliness. The managers are very kind and always available. We easily found free parking in the port area just a few steps from the property. I had read other reviews where it was said that the square was noisy, but it did not seem so to us at all.
