The Municipality of Posada (Province of Nuoro), located in the historic region of Baronia, has a population of approximately 3, 000 inhabitants.

The name “Pasada” derives directly from the Latin verb *pausare*, meaning “to rest” or “to stop”. Human presence in the territory of Posada (*Pasada* in Sardinian) dates back to the Neolithic period (4500–1800 BC). More evident traces date from the Bronze Age and, in particular, from the Nuragic period. These include Giants’ Tombs and several nuraghi, where three Nuragic bronze figurines were also discovered.

Another bronze artefact of great importance to the history of Posada is the so-called “Hercules of Posada”, discovered in the early 20th century and now preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari. The work is a significant example of Etruscan-Italic sculpture, dating from between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC.

During the Middle Ages, the territory of Posada, which belonged to the Judicate of Gallura, came under the control of the Maritime Republic of Pisa. The Castello della Fava dates from this period. From then on, Posada played a major economic, military and strategic role throughout Baronia, remaining an important point of reference for the Upper Baronia area and northern Sardinia until modern times.

Posada and its surrounding territory are part of the Tepilora Regional Natural Park. The delta of the Posada River and the coastal wetlands offer magnificent natural landscapes, further enriched by the presence of numerous bird species that find ideal nesting conditions in these habitats.

For eight consecutive years, Posada was awarded the prestigious “5 Vele” recognition by Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club. In 2013, it ranked first in Italy for its commitment to ecotourism and its ability to offer high-quality tourism through the sustainable management of an outstanding natural area, landscape protection, environmentally friendly services and excellent local food and wine.

The Municipality was also awarded the 2013 Urban Planning Prize as part of Urbanpromo, an event organised by the Italian National Institute of Urban Planning and held in Turin from 6 to 8 November 2013. The award recognised Posada’s Municipal Urban Plan, which was brought into line with the Regional Landscape Plan.

Together with the other municipalities of the Tepilora Park and neighbouring areas, the Municipality of Posada also promoted its candidacy for the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MaB) Programme – Biosphere Reserves. The area is equipped with a bike-sharing system designed to facilitate and encourage sustainable mobility.

A wide range of sports and outdoor activities can be enjoyed throughout the area, including hiking, mountain biking, recreational and sport fishing, kayaking, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Posada also has access to the La Caletta marina, jointly managed with the Municipality of Siniscola, which provides a variety of services for recreational boating and fishing.
