The first marquis Malaspina who built the estate at Orsara was Federico, in 1266 he was succeeeded by his son Tomasso, in 1303 Insardo, son of Tomasso, ordered the murder of his brother Antonio and he took posession of the entire inheritance.
Isnardo was succeeded by his son Giacomo, Giacomo's son Tomasso succeeded him before his death, in 1435 he swore loyalty to the Duke of Savoia, he died in 1441 leaving his estate to his son Giacomo who was still a minor. He was there fore rappresented by his uncle Giovanni I, who after the premature death of his nephen claimed regency.
Giovanni I was succeeded by, in order : Antoniotto, Lodovico, and finally Giovanni II, Lord of Orsara from 1484 to 1529.
He died without leaving an heir, and so with the death of Giovanni II the masculine line of the family was extinguised. Orsara and the other parts of the estate passed to the daughter of Giovanni II, Violante, Who in 1530 married Giovanni Battista of Lodrone, and she Gave her state as a dowry.
