The Antica Locanda is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, making it a great base for relaxation or exploring the area. Within less than an hour's drive, you can visit the Toce waterfalls, Lake Maggiore with Stresa and the Borromean Islands, Lake Mergozzo, the Veglia and Devero Parks, and the Premia thermal baths. In the valley, you can reach Lake Antrona and Lake Dei Cavalli by car in about 30 minutes.
Just 100 meters from the house, the forest begins, with trails available for both children and more challenging hikes.
From Domodossola, the Vigezzina railway connects Domodossola to Locarno (Switzerland).

I was looking for a quiet spot, away from the hustle and bustle of the Milanese hinterland, and in 2008, I discovered the little village of Montescheno, a location in the Antrona Valley where the sun shines even in winter (which is not common in the mountains).
I fell in love with the place and purchased a house, an old chalet that had been slightly modified over the centuries and had served as the only telephone exchange in the village for the last fifty years, as well as a tavern and a grocery store. During the war, it housed the German command, and during epidemics, it was used as an isolation site, for instance, during the Spanish flu.
I renovated my apartment, while the upstairs had been unoccupied but not for sale.
Finally, in 2023, I was able to buy the upstairs, which was fully renovated in 2025, and I decided to create two independent units for tourist rentals.
I am very passionate about the mountains and have explored the surrounding area extensively, so I can provide guidance on various trails if needed.
I also enjoy foraging for herbs and plants and making liqueurs, so you can expect a small treat to commemorate your stay.
My profession is teaching, so I won't be around during the week, but I will still be very available if you need anything. There is also a trusted person on-site if necessary.

Comfortable apartment renovated in an original way and respectful of the surroundings. The welcome was kind and attentive. We note, for light sleepers, the proximity of a bell tower that rings even at night.

Grazie Barbara della recensione... è vero, il campanile suona spesso, in inverno con i doppi vetri di fatto non si sente, d'estate, con le finestre aperte... si! Inoltre di solito la domenica mattina alle 9, per invitare tutti alla messa delle 10, fa anche un bel concerto; -).

I can only say good things about this property, renovated but very warm, welcoming and furnished with reclaimed antique furniture that goes well with all the décor. Everything seems very well thought out. The rooms are very beautiful, with everything a person might need, and the welcome gift was much appreciated. Thank you Sonia, you made us feel at home. The wonderful place made us forget the city's hustle and rediscover the sounds of nature. We will definitely return in the spring to enjoy the garden relaxation area and to grill some steaks on the barbecue.
