B&B Tulipano

Clean, but extremely noisy — we could not sleep. Unfortunately, our stay at Il Tulipano in Como was far from restful. The accommodation is just a few metres from a very busy four-lane road. Although the traffic was less noisy during the day, it became very loud at night, even with the door closed, and we could not sleep. Our room had no separate window; the entrance door was the only opening and the only way to get fresh air. Opening it exposed us directly to even more traffic noise. The pillows were very hard and uncomfortable, and there was no wardrobe to store our belongings. When we asked about the noise, we were assured that it would not be noisy with the window closed. Unfortunately, the traffic noise remained very loud even with everything closed. We feel the hosts should have offered us the option to cancel after we raised our concerns. The hosts were friendly and the accommodation was clean, which we appreciated. The garden is also lovely. However, the photos should show not only the garden but also how close the accommodation is to the busy road, so guests can make an informed decision. At €130 for the stay, we found the value for money poor. We cannot understand how this accommodation can be presented as a peaceful place to stay when the traffic noise makes sleeping so difficult. We asked for peppers in the morning for breakfast. It was said that in the morning it was a no-go. Saying simply "sorry, we don’t have" would have been better. Reply. Of course. Here is the complete response in English: Dear Sir or Madam, Unfortunately, I need to correct several points in your response, as some of your statements do not reflect what actually happened. First of all, I strongly reject the suggestion that we tried to avoid paying for a service we had used. We paid everything that was due. At no point did we attempt to avoid payment. The only uncertainty was whether the accommodation had already been charged to my account through the booking platform or whether I still needed to pay directly in cash. Communication was unfortunately difficult. I do not speak Italian; I speak English, German, Spanish and French, while communication at the property was practically only possible in Italian. Turning a simple misunderstanding about the method of payment into an accusation that we attempted not to pay is, in my opinion, completely unfair. Regarding the noise, I fully stand by what I wrote in my review. The road is only a few metres from the accommodation, and the noise from passing cars is clearly audible throughout the night, even with the door/window completely closed. For us, the noise was so significant that sleeping properly was practically impossible. This was not a minor inconvenience; it fundamentally affected the purpose of the accommodation as a place to sleep. Furthermore, the glass door is essentially the only opening of the room to the outside. Opening it means being directly exposed to the traffic noise from the road just a few metres away. I am also genuinely surprised that your response places so much emphasis on my asking about peppers at breakfast. It was simply a question. Asking whether peppers, tomatoes or something similar are available for breakfast is neither a complaint nor a demand. I do not understand why such a simple question is being portrayed as a "very particular and unusual request." I also clearly acknowledged the positive aspects in my review: the people were friendly, the accommodation was clean, and the garden was beautiful. However, none of this changes the main issue: for us, it was practically impossible to sleep because of the continuous traffic noise during the night. A review exists precisely so that guests can describe their genuine experience, including both positive and negative aspects. This was our experience, and I stand by what I wrote. Kind regards. We were there for only one day. Nevertheless, we greatly enjoyed the warmth and attentiveness of the senior host. Our room, the breakfast room and the entire property are very harmonious and lovingly decorated. The breakfast was extraordinarily plentiful. The car can be parked safely directly in front of the house. It is 10 minutes to the city center by car. The bus stop is nearby. The only point of criticism is the house's direct location on a busy road. Since we only stayed one night and were passing through, we can highly recommend the accommodation.

My family and I had a great stay. The bed and breakfast has easy access to Lake Como as well as shopping areas. The breakfast was over the top and our hosts were warm and welcoming. We look forward to returning in the future when more time permits, as there is so much more to see and do. The rooms were exceptionally clean and fully stocked. Thank you very much.

I stayed for two days with my family and we had a fantastic time. Fantastic hospitality, close to Como, reachable within a few minutes by car. Excellent breakfast with a touch of Sicily on the shore of Lake Como. There is parking and pets are accepted. Absolutely recommended.

Mattress a bit soft but the welcome was very warm.

The friendliness during the stay was incredible. Thank you very much. The only downside was the proximity of the road in front of the property; with the window open the traffic was disruptive.

Recommended B&B. Spacious and clean room. Friendly and helpful owner. Abundant breakfast. Parking inside the courtyard. 10 minutes by car from the lake.

Everything was great.

We had a wonderful stay for one night. The host treated us like family and was most friendly. Wonderful breakfast, super nice and big room. We will absolutely recommend this.

The host was extremely friendly. Nothing was too much for him. The breakfast outside in the garden was excellent. The variety was enormous. It's a pity that it is not located by the lake. Ideal pit stop on the way south.

Warm welcome. We stayed here for the second time and have a reservation also for next July. A very friendly host. Super clean. Super breakfast. Unfortunately, there is some traffic noise.

The place was wonderful, quiet and beautiful, the garden and seating are beautiful, the breakfast is delicious, special and has a special and intimate touch, the reception is beautiful from the host Uncle Gaytano as well as his hospitality to the guests, and also his special warm farewell, the place is as if you are in your home no matter where your home is located on the globe, there is private parking and a gate and this is something special as well.

Highly recommended!

We stayed for one night. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable. However, there is a need for another mirror (full-length) in addition to the one in the bathroom. A small cabinet in the bathroom. The breakfast was delicious, plentiful, and Mr. Gaetano was very kind.

Good for a short stop. Unfortunately, it is located on a noisy street. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great.

Nice B&B Tulipano. You can go by bus to Como or Milan. On the other side of the street you can eat at Wienerhaus.

The owners of B&B Tulipano are very kind and attentive. The breakfast is very good and abundant. Unfortunately, the accommodation has no windows, so you can only leave the door to the terrace open. The street traffic near the accommodation was louder than expected, which is not a problem for just one night.

All good.

Very nice hosts, always reachable and very helpful. The rooms were extremely clean and our dog was also welcome at no extra cost. The breakfast was outstanding with everything one could desire. For our onward journey, a great baguette was even prepared for us without us mentioning anything, and fruit and drinks were offered to take with us. If we stay in Como again, only there. Thank you very much for the great hospitality, we will recommend you 🥳.

Incredible big breakfast! The most welcoming and caring family. Such a big Italian loving family that even offered to serve us lunch because we hadn’t left the house yet. They are new to hosting and I hope they get booked out! I left feeling part of the family.
