Description
Guest House Al Castello is located in the heart of the historic centre of Gravedona ed Uniti, where you can still see the remains of the old castle walls and the old meeting square, which is now the marvellous viewpoint known as the Belvedere or Pra’ Castello. The whole area is full of ancient lanes and stairways leading either to the main squares or to the main road, the ‘Regina’.
The oldest houses in Gravedona are found right here , around a little central square called Piazza Motti. After more than 30 years working in the real estate sector, I and my family decided to buy a house located half way up the main flight of steps to the ‘Castello’ area and bring it back to life as a Guest House.
The house dates back to 1200. It has three floors and a wonderful view over the roofs to the mountains all around us. The renovation work has been done with great respect for the history of the building, retaining every possible original feature such as wood ceilings, ancient tiled floors and steps made of locally quarried stone. During the work we were thrilled to find, hidden under some later plaster, a well-preserved fresco from 1400, measuring 1. 5 x 1. 5 metres. It has been very carefully restored by Rosella Bernasconi, an expert in fine art restoration.

I spent one night at this Guest House and I must say it was all perfect; perfectly clean, recently renovated and thought out in every detail to make the guest feel at home. They don't serve breakfast, but there are coffee, teas, pastries, and everything you need to heat up food if you don't want to go out for dinner. Claudia was very kind and did everything to make me feel at home.

Claudia is a super sweet lady and an amazing host. She even bakes some of the cakes and makes the jams provided at breakfast herself! The rooms are very clean and beds are comfortable too. Definitely staying here again when I go back to Lake Como.

Exceptional. Very warm welcome. Claudia and Gabriello are more than friendly hosts. They give you great tips for exploring the area and dining in the evening. The breakfast is homemade, varied, abundant, and of quality. Go there with your eyes closed, a must-visit address at Lake Como. We will definitely come back.
