From Tirano you can catch Bernina Express Train (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the famous panoramic train that crosses the Swiss Alps and reaches St. Moritz.
In Tirano you can visit the Sanctuary of Madonna di Tirano, a pilgrimage destination for the apparition of the virgin in 1504. You can also visit the historic center and its palaces, including Palazzo Salis.
Tirano is located in the middle of apple orchards and vineyards, which make Valtellina famous for its fine wines (Sforzato and Valtellina Superiore) and offer beautiful walks (from Tirano along the Wine Trail) that also reaches Teglio, where you can taste pizzoccheri, buckwheat pasta topped with bitto and casera.
Tirano is also along the Sentiero Valtellinese, the cycle path that from Colico also reaches Bormio, famous for its thermal waters.
