Description
The B&B is located in an elegant apartment from the early twentieth century, in the San Nicola area (Castelletto district) convenient to the Principe Station, the University (via Balbi), and the historic center. Starting from the B&B with the Zecca-Righi funicular, you can reach Largo Zecca in just 7 minutes (pictures 11 and 12), and in about fifteen minutes on foot, you will arrive at the Royal Palace located on via Balbi or at the Aquarium in the Porto Antico, at Palazzo Ducale (walking thought the beautiful Via Garibaldi, a Unesco heritage site), and at San Lorenzo cathedral, discovering alleys, churches, museums and much more. It will be a pleasure for me to suggest interesting itineraries and places to visit.

The B&B can be reached both by the Zecca-Righi funiculare (pictures 11-12-13) and by bus n° 36 which passes in front of the Principe Station (picture 6) as well as in front of the Brignole Station and goes up the ring road upstream (Circonvalmonte). For routes in both directions, the descent is always indicated on the bus displays as "Firenze4 / San Nicola" (pictures 7-8). In case the visitor wants to avoid the stairs reaching the B&B from Corso Firenze (San Nicola), I suggest to the visitor to get off the bus n° 36 at the bus stop indicated as "Firenze3/Salvago" if the visitor comes from the Brignole Station, and she/he must wait for the bus n° 375 (timetable daytime only) on that same stop; otherwise, if the visitor as coming from the Principe Station, she/he must get off at the bus stop identified as "Firenze5/Salvago", crosses the road and wait for the bus n° 375. Once the visitor is on bus n° 375 she/he will arrive via Marco Polo getting off at the first bus stop of via Piaggio.

Note: those who go up from Portello (picture 15) with the public elevator of Castelletto (picture 16) can admire the splendid panorama of the roofs of the historic center of Genoa from the Belvedere Montaldo (picture 21). Then the visitor can catch bus n° 375 at the terminus of Spianata Castelletto (picture 18).

On the previous request, it is possible to offer in the immediate vicinity of the B&B an outdoor car park and/or a repaired motorcycle parking lot, both closed by gates. The cost of it is € 10, 00 per night.

It is possible to park in via Piaggio in the blue lines paying with coins or credit card: from 8 in the morning to 20 in the evening they are € 17. 70 per day (first hour € 1. 30; second hour € 1, 40 and from the third hour onwards € 1. 50) excluding Sunday which is free.

The payment accepted for the overnight stay at B&B and parking can be done in cash.

Area city center
The B&B is located in the Castelletto district, precisely in San Nicola, which offers numerous services: the San Nicola da Tolentino church, a flower shop and a pizzeria. In Piazzetta Giulio Marchi, and, in the immediate vicinity, in Corso Firenze one my find a Carrefour supermarket, renowned gastronomy shops, including a bakery with excellent "focaccia". There is also the Intesa San Paolo ATM, a post office, the newsagent, the tobacconist and the San Nicolò pharmacy and taxis. And, for those with a sweet tooth, the "San Nicola" ice cream parlor is just a few steps away.

Routes to reach the bed and breakfast: "A. M. La Funicolare":

- Those arriving by car or taxi in via Marco Polo will ring at the door n° 12/9 B (ie inside 9 of the staircase B) on the intercom button, there are my initials "A. M. " (picture n° 5).

- Bus n° 36 or n° 606.
Those arriving by train at the Principe or at the Brignole Stations can get on the bus n° 36 (picture n° 6), the route to reach the bus station to catch bus n° 36 "Circonvalmonte" (that is ring road upstream, to go up to the district of San Nicola) from the Principe Station, is shown with a yellow line; the direction of the bus that passes by Principe Station is indicated with a blue line. After 20. 20 the bus n° 36 is replaced by bus n° 606 which terminates in front of the Principe Station in Piazza Acquaverde (picture n° 14), but also passes by the Brignole Station. From both directions (either Principe or Brignole Stations) the visitor has to get off at the fourth stop in Corso Firenze, indicated on the display as "Firenze4/San Nicola" (picture n° 7: bus stop for those coming from Principe Station; picture n° 8: bus stop for those coming from Brignole Station). The B&B building can be seen above the "Zecca-Righi Funicolare" Station called "San Nicola" (picture n° 9) where I will be waiting. We go up the stairs that lead to the secondary entrance of the B&B (picture 10).

- "Zecca-Righi Funicolare" or minibus F2 (do not cath the F2/).
To reach the B&B from the center of Genoa with the "funicolare", the visito has to go to Largo della Zecca, at the entrance of the "Zecca-Righi Funicolare" (pictures 11 and 12) and get off at the San Nicola bus stop in the central shelter between the two cars (picture n° 13) where I will be waiting. In this period, due to partial reconstruction of the "funicolare" route, in the evenings, a replacement service of the "funicolare" system is active and the visitor must catch the minibus F2, which has the termunis at Piazza Bandiera (next to the SS. Nunziata church). Then after the visitor has caught the minibus F2, the bus stop for via Marco Polo is indicated on the display with "1st stop on via Piaggio".

- Minibus n° 375.
Those who are coming from Brignole Station with bus n° 18, 18/ or 20 can get off at the Portello bus stop, access to the Castelletto lifting, with which they will go up to the Belvedere Montaldo and take the bus n° 375 at its terminus (in Spianata Castelletto, only during the day). Then the visitor must get off at the bus stop named as "1st stop on via Piaggio" to reach the via Marco Polo. The road starts to the right of the gate of the Bruzzo castle. The Via Marco Polo plaque is hidden by road signs, therefore it is not immediately visible.

- "Zecca-Righi Funicolare" or minibus F2.
Those who are arriving from the Cruise Terminal, with bus n ° 18, 18/ or 20 all arriving at "Piazza della SS Annunziata". Then the visitor must walk 50 meters in the direction of Largo della Zecca (picture n° 11) where the visitor can take the "Zecca-Righi Funicolare" (picture n° 12). Halfway through the route Zecca-Righi, there is a central shelter where both cars cross each other, the visitor must get off the train (San Nicola stop). In the central shelter, between the two cars (picture n° 13) I will be waiting. The visitor must be aware that in this period in the evenings, due to partial reconstruction of the "funicolare" route, the replacement service of the "funicolare" is active with the minibus F2. The terminus of the minibus F2 is in Piazza Bandiera (next to the SS. Nunziata church). After the visitor has caught the minibus F2 she/he must get off at bus stop indicated on the display as "1st stop on via Piaggio".

- Taxi or Volabus.
Those arriving by plane at the Cristoforo Colombo Airport can reach the B&B by taxi or using the Volabus (picture n° 20), which also stops at the Principe Station. Once the visitor gets off at Principe Station, she/he will wait for bus n° 36 ("Circonvalmonte", the shelter is indicated in picture n° 6), or, after 8: 20 PM, the visitor will take the night bus n° 606 at the terminus (picture n° 14). In any case, the visitor must get off at the fourth bus stop in Corso Firenze indicated on the display as "Firenze4/San Nicola".

Pictures of the Panoramas:

- Picture n° 22. View from the terrace of the B&B building in Via Marco Polo 12.
- Picture n° 23. Bruzzo Castle: the gate of the castle opens onto via Piaggio; to the left of the gate begins via Marco Polo. The indication street sign is hidden by road signs.
- Picture n° 24. D'Albertis Castle, world cultures museum, that is is located ten minutes walk from the B&B.

To find out the timetables of bus lines n° 36, 606, 375 of the "Zecca-Righi Funicolare", of the replacement minibus F2, of the VOLABUS etc. the visitor should, please, consult the AMT website timetables in pdf.

Kindness, availability, and sympathy are the qualities of Alessandra, the owner of the property. The place is clean and well-maintained, very close to the city center (15 minutes on foot or very convenient funicular). We stayed for 2 nights with a 6-year-old child and felt at home. It is a reference point for a future stay in Genoa.

The B&B La Funicolare is located in a very convenient position in a historic area of the city of Genova, easily accessible. Both the structure and cleanliness are impeccable, and Alessandra (the manager) makes you feel at home and well taken care of. Moreover, she provides excellent cultural tips. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
