We were constantly disturbed by street noise: loud conversations, rolling suitcases, a jackhammer, cars, and — on Friday, Saturday and Sunday — an unannounced concert with loudspeakers right next to our front door. We kept the windows closed, but they were not soundproof, so all the noise came straight in. Besides the noise, we also slept poorly on a worn-out, sagging mattress. Tip: warn guests about the noise so they can bring earplugs, or else soundproof the windows and provide decent mattresses for a good night's sleep. My daughter and I returned home exhausted and with back pain. Otherwise, the apartment's location and other amenities were fine. That said, the shelves and the toilet roll holder were practically falling off the wall, the coffee maker was dirty, and there were rusk crumbs in a package on the table. There was a lovely view of Rome from the messy rooftop terrace.
