Description
Just a few minutes from the Orte exit of the A1 highway and the train station that offers quick access to Rome, Casale Hortensiae is situated in a scenic location overlooking the Tiber Valley, nestled in the tranquility of the countryside between Lazio and Umbria. This authentic retreat highlights nature and provides a welcoming atmosphere akin to a family home.

The property, surrounded by vineyards, olive trees, and farm animals, invites guests into a simple yet well-maintained environment, where the air is filled with seasonal fragrances, and life slows down. Ideal for those seeking a stay in harmony with nature, it features tastefully decorated rooms equipped with genuine wool mattresses, a large flower-filled garden with a swimming pool, a communal kitchen with a fireplace, and a porch furnished to overlook the valley.

The essence of the farmhouse is deeply ecological: solar energy is utilized, and water and electricity are used sparingly, while the kitchen offers vegetarian, organic, and local products sourced from the garden, wild herbs foraged nearby, and suppliers committed to sustainability. Breakfast is thoughtfully served, reflecting the "beautiful, good, organic" philosophy, with gluten-free and raw options available upon request.

Due to its location, Casale Hortensiae serves as an ideal starting point for exploring the cultural, historical, and natural wonders of central Italy. Within less than an hour, one can reach Rome, Orvieto, Viterbo, Lake Bolsena, Bomarzo, Amelia, Narni, and many other archaeological, artistic, and thermal sites. The farmhouse is also located along the Via Amerina, a picturesque route accessible by foot, bike, or horseback.

With six bedrooms and five bathrooms, the house can accommodate up to 11 adults and 2 children. It is perfect for groups of friends or families wanting to share spaces and moments, as well as for solo travelers seeking peace and inspiration. Amenities include cooking classes, internet access in common areas (with the option to turn off the Wi-Fi for those sensitive to electromagnetic fields), children's games, a wood-fired oven, swings, and ping pong.

A stay at Casale Hortensiae offers an experience that blends comfort with simplicity, environmental respect with the joy of discovery. It is a country home that embodies authenticity, care, and everyday beauty.

Breakfast
Breakfast at Casale Hortensiae in Orte is designed to be a time of wellness and authenticity, reflecting the establishment's eco-sustainable philosophy. Guests can enjoy a diverse selection of organic and local products, often sourced directly from the estate's garden, with a strong emphasis on seasonal availability and ingredient quality. The breakfast is mainly vegetarian and vegan, featuring homemade bread, artisanal jams, fresh fruit, and other natural preparations.
Home Restaurant
At Casale Hortensiae, dining is a vibrant, spontaneous experience that harmonizes with nature. "La Cuisine Sauvage" emerges from improvisation inspired by the seasonal bounty of the land: each dish is unique and unrepeatable, crafted with freshly harvested ingredients from the synergistic garden or foraged from the surrounding area, following the rhythm of the seasons.

The meals are simple yet full of flavor, color, and energy: ever-changing soups, salads combining wild herbs, flowers, fruits, and seeds, hummus, grains, cooked vegetables, and homemade cakes. The bread is made with freshly milled flour and sourdough, allowed to rise slowly for three days, reflecting care, patience, and respect for natural processes.

Here, we dine together, sharing not just food but also stories, languages, and smiles. In winter, we gather around the warm fireplace, while in summer, we set the table outdoors, surrounded by the tranquility of the countryside. The cuisine of the farmhouse is modest yet joyful, nourishing and never dull: each day is a new discovery, an invitation to conviviality, simplicity, and the beauty of authentic food.

Hey from Elisabeth Anne

Member since April 2025 | 557 hits
After living in Brussels, São Paulo, and Rome, I decided to retreat to a location just over half an hour from the capital, aiming to create a space that reflects my vision of balance, respect, and simplicity. Here, surrounded by the Lazio countryside, I have crafted a small world in harmony with the rhythms of nature, where each day brings a surprise and a chance to slow down.

I cultivate a synergistic garden and gratefully accept what the land provides spontaneously. I do not create waste because everything has value and can be transformed, as Fritjof Capra teaches: in nature, nothing is lost; everything regenerates. Our home ecosystem includes a pair of donkeys that keep the grass trimmed and greet us with their affectionate braying, along with chickens, geese, and a goat that all contribute to caring for the environment, each fulfilling its own role.

I hold a degree in medicine, and after years of experience, I felt the need for a profound change. I am leaving the healthcare system to focus on true health, which stems from connecting with nature, the quality of air, water, food, and inner peace. Here, I offer an opportunity to rejuvenate, to rediscover a vibrant diet with food that truly nourishes, and to connect with life in its most authentic form.

Soon, there will also be a colon hydrotherapy service available to support the wellness journey in a more comprehensive way. Wi-Fi is only available upon request because we believe in the value of silence and disconnection.

If you feel called to a place where you can find yourself and live in harmony with nature, you are welcome. Ultimately, it will be a mutual exchange: you rejuvenate, and I continue to advance this project. A true win-win situation.

First of all, thank you because the experience was wonderful. Thank you again because the presentation is even reductive compared to reality. Elisabeth and Michele are of invaluable friendliness and charm. An opportunity to reconcile with life. Thank you again.
