The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Carmine is located on its namesake mountain, a few km from Avigliano (PZ) and approximately 1100 m above sea level, in a panoramic position strategically. It is important place of worship of all of Basilicata, and not only: thousands of people come every year to venerate the Madonna del Carmine, which is carried in procession on July 16 and will remain there until the second Sunday in September, when it is brought back in country, preceded by votive girded. This story of faith began in 1694, when the population Aviglianesi was saved from a terrible earthquake, attributing the miracle to the Virgin Mary.
