The Bed and Breakfast ATELIER LIDIA POLLA is named after the Triest-born painter and sculptress Lidia Polla (1911-1997) who used to live and work in this very apartment.
The flat is located on the first floor of a downtown late 19th Century building and it will welcome you in its artistic, yet familiar atmosphere. It is only a few minutes from the Main Railway Station and from the terminal of the historic “Tram de Opicina”; the major points of interests in the city, such as the Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia (the largest sea-front square of Europe), the Sinagogue (one of the main centres of Jewish religion in Europe), thr Serbian-Orthodox Temple of Santissima Trinità e di S. Spiridione, the neo-classical church of S. Antonio Nuovo and neo-gothic Lutheran Evangelic church are also in the neighbourhood.
Furthermore, public transportation is available right around the corner, thus making it quite easy to reach far-off sites of cultural, artistic and historical interest (the Miramare Castle, the University etc), as well as our naturalistic jewels (Val Rosandra, the Carso and Rilke Walk).
For theatre-goers, the B&B is halfway between the Opera House (Teatro G. Verdi) and the Teatro Politeama Rossetti.
We have two rooms: one double room, named after the opera “Carmen*”, and a multiple one, made up of two adjoining rooms, one of which has a king-size bed and is named after the opera “Madama Butterfly*”, and the other is a very spacious three-bed room called “The Barber of Seville*”.
All rooms are equipped with sound-proof windows; they have comfortable beds with double pillows and eider-down quilts, the sheets are embroidered in precious Egyptian combed percale cotton and are permeated in a magical atmosphere, surrounded as they are by Lidia Polla's artwork and theatrical references in the furniture and decoration. We can have as many as seven guests.
All rooms are equipped with air conditioner / dehumidifier with its remote control for personalized adjustment.
All rooms are no-smoking.
There is a large terrace for smoking and non-smoking guests.
In the structure there are no TV sets but there is free Wi-Fi.
Private bathrooms are at guests' disposal, and cleanliness is guaranteed.

I am a restaurateur and I have inherited the passion for art from my grandmother, Lidia Polla, to whom I wanted to dedicate the name of the B&B. Laura, our host, was amazing! Kind, communicative, efficient, accommodating. The building of the B&B is very old but the accommodations were beautifully decorated and updated with local artwork. Breakfast was yummy. Definitely recommend!

Laura is a wonderful, sunny and helpful person, who pampered us with her happiness biscuits. The structure takes you back in time and at the same time into the future. Spacious room, equipped with every comfort, very unique. In short, we will come back and hopefully soon.

The landlady is very kind and helpful. Extraordinary rooms lovingly decorated, high ceilings (house probably dating back to the early 20th century). Excellent breakfast included in the price. Breakfast can be taken on the terrace. Very good functioning internet (WLAN). Air conditioning is available. The soundproof door suppresses street noise well, but when closed it prevents room ventilation. Central location. Private toilet is accessible from the hallway. Heavy car traffic in front of the house, free parking spaces very rare, however, a parking garage (18€/night) is nearby.

This Bed and Breakfast is unique. The hostess Laura welcomed us extremely warmly and took care of us lovingly. The breakfast was sensational. A huge selection of fine teas, jams, honey, muesli and fruit were available. There was also excellently prepared coffee and a cake baked by Laura herself, which smelled and tasted exquisite. (Sacherkuchen:)) One can tell with what dedication this authentic and beautiful apartment has been furnished and maintained. Here you simply feel comfortable and can explore Trieste from a very good location. We found a second home here in Trieste. Thank you and goodbye Laura! P&R.

We had a very good time in Trieste. Laura is a beautiful woman and her rooms are fantastic. She told us about interesting places and restaurants in Trieste. From her rooms you can reach the center of the city or the sea in a few minutes. I am sure we will come back soon.

We spent three nights in this original and well-kept Bed & Breakfast. The hostess Laura is wonderful and super friendly. On a small terrace, we were served a breakfast in the morning that leaves nothing to be desired (croissants, bread, muesli, fruit, juices...). The accommodation is not far from the canal and also from the train station, so you are not dependent on public transport to discover the beautiful city of Trieste.

Laura was an excellent host. Her creative talents shine through this unique B&B, with beautiful details everywhere you look. Laura and her mother were warm, welcoming, and made every effort to speak English. I'm currently travelling around Europe, and their breakfast was the most beautifully presented I have seen. The location is perfect – a short walk from the beautiful town square and canal. Excellent value for money, would highly recommend.

Cities can be beautiful in themselves, and Trieste with all its squares, cafes, magnificent facades, osterias, and sea views is undoubtedly beautiful. Such places become even more beautiful for the traveler when they can be explored from a cozy, tastefully designed and excitingly located accommodation, whose extremely warm hostess also has numerous insider tips for exploring the city and conjures up an excellent breakfast including homemade cake on the rooftop every morning. The B&B Lidia Polla is one such accommodation, and Laura is one such hostess. It is easy to understand why the British "Guardian" selected the accommodation in 2015 as one of the "10 of the best B&Bs in Europe". Thank you for this great experience!

Atelier Lidia Polla is a charming, eclectic B&B overflowing with art and antiques and the warmth of its owners. Every piece within, the furniture, the rings in the jewelry case, the names and themes of the rooms themselves, seems to have a fascinating backstory and link to the family's long history in art and music. Laura and her mother took excellent care of us, making sure we ate way too much at breakfast on their plant-lined terrace. That was the free option. I can only imagine what the extra breakfast entails! I can't recommend Atelier Lidia strongly enough, really an exceptional place. Stay here if you get the chance!

I cannot say enough about Atelier Lidia Polla. Beautiful spaces full of wonderful art and design pieces, creativity everywhere you look. Comfortable, spotless rooms and a beautiful terrace garden. Plentiful, homemade breakfast in a marvelous eclectic kitchen. Laura and her mother Silva are wonderful hosts and excellent company. Trieste is definitely worth a visit, just for the Atelier Lidia Polla. The B&B is truly a special experience, as unfortunately there are fewer and fewer of them. It is located in a typical Trieste historic building, immersing oneself completely in the city's atmosphere. The rooms are furnished by the owner Laura with beautiful antiques and attention to every little detail. My room had a fantastic new bathroom, furnished in old style with beautiful tiles and fixtures. Breakfast is served in the very beautiful and spacious kitchen (with historic oven, antiques and works of the artist Lidia Polla), or on the huge planted terrace, which guests can also use in the evening. The breakfast itself is delightful, with homemade cakes, tasty croissants, jams and everything one could wish for. In addition, there is the enchanting hostess Laura, who provides tips on all the most beautiful and delicious places in Trieste. You really feel like a guest in her home. The B&B Atelier Lidia Polla may be the authentic place to experience Trieste.

The place is very charming and very friendly, like Laura, the owner. Laura is a mine of information for those who know nothing about the city of Trieste. And since it's a very special city, both geographically and historically, it's a great opportunity! It is also worth knowing that the Atelier Lidia Polla is a sort of cave of Ali Baba Mittel Europa version, full of all kinds of objects, grandmother's works, dozens of types of teas and herbal teas, etc. A place you won't forget.

What a lovely Bed & Breakfast! I have nothing but positive things to say about my stay. It’s obvious from the moment you step through the door that owner Laura has gone above and beyond in every aspect - the three rooms are wonderfully decorated and filled with beautiful furniture and artwork, the bed and sheets are of very high quality, the kitchen is lovely and the perfect place to eat breakfast and have a chat. I travel a lot and this is honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had. You can tell that Laura has worked really hard to transform her grandmother’s home into a welcoming space for guests to enjoy while still maintaining original touches and its historic flair. Laura and her mother Silva went out of their way to share their knowledge of Trieste and help me with my research. I am very grateful and so glad to have met them. I hope to be back soon!

We were looking for accommodation with personality and we can say that we were thoroughly satisfied. Atelier Lidia Polla is both simple and refined, revealing a taste for beauty without excesses; some antique objects are still used alongside sculptures and paintings that tell the story of a home that still exudes the personality of the artist who lived there. The arrangement and placement of objects reflect the taste of the young hostess. Every detail is well taken care of and measured to welcome guests. Laura, the hostess, is the one who makes the difference; welcoming, spontaneous, attentive, friendly, and efficient, capable of engaging different guests and making shared moments, like breakfast, convivial. For us, the trip to Trieste was a special occasion and, thanks also to Laura, this stay truly was so.

Structure with early 1900s atmospheres, with antique furniture and artistic aura, completely restored and clean. It is located on the outskirts of the center, easily reachable from the train station. The owner is helpful and kind, dedicating a lot of care to the guest's well-being. The rooms are comfortable, spacious with clean and comfortable sheets and linen. Rich breakfast. Recommended.

Tutto sa di buono in questo piccolo B&B nel cuore di Trieste.
Ogni dettaglio ha un suo perché e merita attenzione e le spiegazioni della padrona di casa Laura, davvero ospitale e disponibilissima.
L'appartamento di fine '800 è stato restaurato con rispetto (meravigliosi i pavimenti in legno) e, pur mantenendo immutata l'atmosfera originale, è stato portato a standard moderni di assoluta eccellenza: camera insonorizzata alla perfezione, letti comodissimi, wifi gratuito, frigobar ecc. ecc.. Io personalmente mi sono innamorato della cucina dove si consuma la colazione al mattino.
Perché scegliere questa struttura rispetto ad un classico albergo? Perché qui non sarete mai clienti omologati ma viaggiatori del mondo!

We had a great stay in this lovely B&B. Laura, the host, is super nice and really helpful, she give us advice of were to go - even bus numbers and stops - where to eat, etc.
The breakfast was very good, the house very clean, had a good environment and everything looked really nice and tidy. The bonus is the location. Very close to bus & train station, next to bus stops and at walking distance from several attractions and sea side.
Definitely a place to visit again (city and B&B).

È stato come entrare nel mondo di Laura, la proprietaria. Appartamento trasformato in B&B che riesce, nelle sua misure contenute, a coinvolgere ed avvolgere.
Decisamente gradevole la profumazione in stanza, apprezzabile la terrazza ove poter leggere, prendere uno dei tanti the/tisane/infusi a disposizione, fare un aperitivo. curata anche la colazione con un buon cappuccino, croissant, yogurt, frutta e salata (a richiesta). Per gli amanti del vintage.

Dieses B&B ist etwas ganz Besonderes, vor allem für Menschen, die Freude am Detail haben. Es ist wunderschön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet, mit tollen großen Zimmern und schönen Bädern, süßer Küche als Frühstücksraum und hübscher Terasse. Man kann sich hier sehr wohl fühlen und dem Trubel der Stadt entfliehen, trotzdem haben wir alles zu Fuß erreicht.

Wunderschön, köstliches frühstück, grandiose gastgeberin, supersymphatisch, supersauber. Wir haben selten so schön gewohnt. Die Lage ist ideal für stadtspaziergänge und rausfahrausflüge.

Una casa elegantissima, bella e di classe. Laura, la proprietaria, è geniale e simpatica, molto prodiga di consigli. Prepara una colazione degna di un Hotel di lusso ma lo fa con il cuore. Pulizia immacolata, lenzuola di rasatello con lo stemma della casa così come gli asciugamani, l'accappatoio e le ciabattine. Questo B&B vale il viaggio a Trieste, che per altro, è bellissima. Dovete venire assolutamente.

Una occasione preziosa per godere del mito di questa città. I can just confirm what the other reviews are saying! Everything about it is great! Trieste is a fantastic city, and the host, Laura is really wonderful! So nice and friendly. She gave me a map of Trieste and recommended many great places to visit and restaurants, which was really great because sometimes it can be difficult to find great food as a vegetarian, but she showed me all the right places.
The apartment itself is really clean, beautiful and comfortable. She put a lot of effort in the decorations and art are they are so special, interesting and beautiful. Laura also makes sure that the guests feel comfortable and at home.
The location is also perfect because the train station is a short walk away, and so are most of the main points and restaurants in the city. I'm already planning on coming back again very very soon!

Ottima colazione, la camera si presentava esattamente come in foto e la pulizia nei bagni e nella camera era perfetta! Unico piccolo inconveniente è stato il non avere il bagno in camera (ma comunque ogni camera ha il proprio bagno privato). Il B&B è praticamente in centro, quindi posizione ottimale. La proprietaria, gentilissima, ci ha consigliato ottimi locali e caffè..in particolare, consiglio di fare un tour nei caffè storici di Trieste!

Laura est adorable et drole, elle se met en quatre pour que le séjour se passe au mieux, conseils, adresses. Les chambres sont charmantes ainsi que la salle de petit déjeuner et elle nous régale de pâtisseries fraîches qùelle descend acheter chaque matin.

B&B is amazing and wonderfully decorated.
it is on the first floor, there is a lift and the rooms have double glazing so you will be able to spend a quiet and relaxing night
located centrally 10 mins walking from the train station and 10 minutes from piazza unità d'Italia (main square), it is the perfect venue for spending a few days in Trieste.
Laura speaks a good english and she will be able to assist you with any needs (she managed to find us a cab at 7am on the sunday morn!)
breakfast was amazing too with fresh croissants bought from the bakery downstairs and fresh coffee plus a selection of home made jams, biscuits, etc
so if you decide to come to Trieste this would be your perfect accommodation!

B&B con un' atmosfera veramente affascinante, che fa venire voglia di soggiornarci per il sol gusto di essere lì.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Trieste, made all the better by the welcome and company of Laura and her family. Communal breakfast in the gorgeous kitchen was a delight and was an ideal way to meet new people and share tips. Quel che più ho amato di questo B&B: il suo essere raffinato con eleganza, senz'ombra di pretenziosità; la dolcezza di Laura, "padrona di casa" per cui ogni ospite è ospite di riguardo, da coccolare discretamente ma senza risparmiarsi; l'imbarazzo della scelta tra gusti di marmellate e ottime tisane all'ora dell'abbondante colazione; la qualità, l'originalità e l'accuratezza di ogni dettaglio, dagli arredi alla biancheria ai detergenti da bagno.
Ultimo ma non ultimo, la posizione (imbattibile per chi arrivi in treno) e lo straordinario rapporto qualità/prezzo, che tra le altre cose ha tariffe adeguate e non penalizzanti anche per noi "viaggiatori singoli", così che ci si senta ottimamente accolti anziché "usurpatori" di stanze doppie, come purtroppo talvolta accade laddove scarseggi il valore dell'accoglienza.

Perfetto è la parola giusta. Sinceramente sento molto la mancanza di Laura e di sua madre. Donne meravigliose. Ho viaggiato spesso in Italia e nel mondo e questo è tuttora il posto migliore ed è la prima volta che mi trovo meglio che a casa mia. Non ero un ospite ma parte della famiglia. È stata un'esperienza bellissima e spero di ritornare al più presto. Consiglio a tutti questo posto meraviglioso. A presto e grazie infinite per tutto.
