Beschreibung
The Wise Owl is a house built entirely of straw bales.

We chose straw because it is an ecological, biodegradable, and readily available material. In fact, we used the straw from the field next to our house! I would say it's Metro Zero! No expenses for processing and transportation.

Straw is also an excellent insulator, both from heat and cold, thus guaranteeing a drastic reduction in cooling (practically zero) and heating consumption.

There is no risk of fire because the straw is covered with plaster and also because it is tightly compressed, preventing combustion due to lack of oxygen.

Furthermore, it is a very safe house from a seismic point of view: the straw absorbs shocks, so there is no danger of collapse.

Moreover, when combined with lime and raw earth plasters, straw ensures excellent humidity regulation, ensuring unparalleled climatic comfort.

You can experience it at our Bed & Breakfast “Al gufo saggio”
We are Laura and Stefano, a teacher of primary school and a social worker. About two years ago we moved from Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII in the province of Bergamo, in the North of Italy to the Romagna countryside, following our dream.

The backcountry in Romagna seemed ideal: close to the sea, not far from the beautiful art-city of Ravenna and surrounded by gentle hills. In other words … we are in the heart of Romagna, one of the most welcoming regions in Italy!
“Al gufo saggio” is a dream come true: it’s more solid and resistant than the straw house of the famous story of the three little pigs by the Grimm Brothers. The outside walls are made of bales of straw, while the interior is mainly made of compressed straw panels. The rounded profile, the slightly “pot-bellied” walls, the walls covered in raw earth and lime are absolutely unique and surprising.

An area of our house is open for guests as a Bed & Breakfast. If you want to spend a few days in Romagna for a trip to the beach, a cultural visit, a gastronomic stop-over in one of the many festivals of the area etc … or simply rest in the quiet countryside… you must visit us! You are always welcome in our B&B!

B&B really well structured, in the middle of the countryside. Sleep quality is excellent, rooms are clean. The breakfast is delicious with various cakes and other things prepared by Mrs. Laura. Good location to visit the various places in the area. The owners are really nice, Mr. Stefano helped me with the booking for the visit to the monuments in Ravenna, and they also pointed out some restaurants.

Magnificent stay! We stayed for 7 days. The structure is very nice and above all clean and fragrant. Laura and Stefano are fantastic and cordial hosts. The breakfasts were dreamy, different every morning and above all genuine, specially prepared by Laura. Upon returning from the long days spent in amusement parks, it is the right place to find a bit of relaxation. We will return.

Structure immersed in greenery, brand new and super clean. It is located 20 minutes by car from Ravenna. Internal parking and ample spaces in the garden are available. The managers are extremely helpful, friendly, and down-to-earth. Exceptional breakfast with homemade products (including vegan ones).

We stayed 2 nights at Al Gufo saggio - La Casa di Paglia and we had an extremely good time! Laura and Stefano are very kind and welcoming, our little girl fell in love with their dog, Milo, sweet and playful! The room was very clean and equipped with every comfort. I cannot fail to mention Mrs. Laura's breakfasts: spectacular!! A wide choice of sweet and savory foods! If we were to come back to the area, it would be our choice!

Good morning, Easter 2017. The structure is in a pleasant position in the middle of the Romagna countryside, but just a few kilometers from Cervia. Only two rooms, but both splendid, furnished in a very fine way, brand new and absolutely spotless. We needed a base to see our Romagna friends. Breakfast attentive to customers' needs with homemade cakes and cookies by Laura, more than just managers, almost friends. Paraphrasing a well-known successful movie, what else to say if you pass by those parts, stop, it's really worth it. A warm greeting.

A warm weekend in March at the Wise Owl, how regenerating! The magic of the countryside that pours its splendor into Stefano and Laura's straw house. Magic, wonder, amenities, and a scent of well-being that still floated under the nose a few weeks later. How I want to go back! How I want to hear about the love that served as the foundation for this incredible construction, a real challenge. How I want to relive the "melting" of the black bread in my mouth in the morning for breakfast, and all the goodness that would be tempting to review, but the surprise of the moment would be lost. A enveloping, blissful sleep was given to us by our impeccable room, with meticulously cared details and an atmosphere of peace and serenity. A place that has the only flaw of accompanying the departure with a genuine melancholy. When you feel like opening a little window and finding a surprise, feeling pampered, informed, when you feel like stepping out of real life and entering a small enchanted world: the Wise Owl is the right place. Stefano and Laura, you are extraordinary people, and Milo you are the seasoning that flavors this wonder! Thank you from the heart, see you soon.
