Description
Dear guests, we would like to inform you that to reach the property from the Medieval Borgo Medievale di Pontone, it will be necessary to climb 190 steps. We recommend bringing light luggage and, if necessary, asking the owner for assistance.
"Palazzo Verone" is an ancient historic residence dating back to the Middle Ages, which preserves the testimony of its important past thanks to the presence of various 18th-century frescoes inside (quote in the T.C.I. GUIDE).
It is located in the small medieval village of Pontone, halfway between Amalfi and Ravello.
From the windows and balconies of "Palazzo Verone," you can enjoy a breathtaking spectacle. Admire the enchanting Amalfi, stretching along the Valle dei Mulini, the majestic Villa Cimbrone in Ravello on the rocky spur, and the fascinating Gulf of Salerno, extending to the Piana di Paestum and Punta Licosa.
Thanks to its privileged position, the Palace is immersed in an almost unreal silence. When you wake up in the morning, you cannot help but think: "What a wonder to wake up in Pontone!"
The Palace was owned by the Verone family, an influential and prestigious family from the village of Pontone in the late 18th century. The head of the family, Giovanbattista Verone, was then in charge of the administration of the small village, which led to conflicts and envy from other powerful families of the time.
It is said that there were strong clashes with another noble family from the area, the D'Afflitto, who owned the remains of the ancient basilica of S. Eustachio di Minuta. It seems that the almost total destruction of this basilica was caused by rivalry between the Verone and D'Afflitto, related to power issues.
Another anecdote related to the Verone family concerns a "legend" depicted in the frescoes at the entrance of the Palace. These frescoes show two ovals, one with figures of brigands chained in period clothing and the other with souls from purgatory brandishing bones. It is said that thanks to the intercession of the souls from purgatory, the family was saved from the assault of the brigands. More details about this story can be provided directly by the owner of the property, Michele Criscuolo.
It is an interesting story that the current owner and manager of the accommodation has found confirmation in some historical writings of the time documenting its veracity.

"Life is the art of meeting" said a famous poet and lyric writer from Brazil called Vinicius De Moraes, and I share completely this motto.
I'm a really passioned musician and I delight in writing songs to share with my friends when we meet at the parties I organize in my house.
One of these songs' lyric says: "Che meraviglia svegliarsi a Pontone..How wonderful is to wake up in Pontone". That's a song whose inspiration I found a day while was looking down from a window of my house and so sensitively I appreciated too much that amazing view.
The wish is, who knows, to share this song with you too, while tasting togheter a good glass of red wine, just after that you too, could have enjoyed this deep emotion.
See you soon.
Michele Criscuolo.

Area hills
In the area in which "Palazzo Verone" lies, you can enjoy many cultural, artistic and natural sites.
The position, really strategic, allows to reach within few minutes the ancient Republic of Amalfi, the elegant Ravello with his monuments and villas, and the enchanting Positano with his "Dolce Vitae".
Nearby, a little bit far from the village of Pontone, are other very interesting sites: Pompei and The Vesuvio, Ercolaneum and Paestum that are very easly reached by sea or by land.
Regarding the excursions you can enjoy, one of the most famous and interesting path of the Amalfi Coast begins just from the square of Pontone.
It's known as the "Valle delle Ferriere" and is a unique"Natural Reserve" that keeps in its typical tropical ambient represented by coves and waterfalls breathtaking, a very rare and ancient plant of th pre-glacial age: the "Woodwardia Radicans" a bulbiferous fern.
This fern found here his natural habitat thanks to a micro-climate (warm-humid) that allows it to live. In addition it glory in a protection's program by the the "Corpo forestale di Stato" an organing of conservation of the area.
