Area mid-centre
Pizzo is a town of about 9,000 inhabitants, perched on a rock from which it overlooks the Gulf of Lamezia. Famous for hosting the Castle where Gioacchino Murat was shot and the Piedigrotta church entirely carved into the tuff stone along with its suggestive statues, it owes much of its appeal to a typical and high-quality gastronomy, as well as the excellence of its ice creams celebrated worldwide, starting with the famous "tartufo di Pizzo". The town is excellently preserved in its historic center, recently restored, and offers many places, views, and churches to visit. There are abundant and varied opportunities in the surrounding areas, including the kilometers-long and unspoiled sandy beaches of the North, the wildlife island of Lake Angitola, the Certosa di Serra S. Bruno, the Sanctuary of the mystic Paravati, the Magna Grecia Museum of Vibo Valentia, and the one in Reggio Calabria with the famous Riace Bronzes and numerous remains from the Greek-Roman era.
