B&B Calabria

Bed & Breakfast
Via Roma, 7 - Scigliano (CS) - Area: hills
Guests in this venue liked:
  • spectacular view
  • abundant breakfast
Our B&B is located in Scigliano, in the central part of Calabria. We will be happy to supply you with all the information regarding interests, traditions, history, architecture, festivals and so on, in order to enjoy your stay in Calabria.

Scigliano is a hill town with a territory that extends from a minimum altitude of 200 meters above sea level (Ponte Romano II sec. ac, below the village Lupia) to a maximum of 1,000 meters (Agrifoglio village in full Presila).

The area extends over about 17 square kilometers of Mediterranean, unspoiled land, where you can enjoy flora and fauna of the different altitudes. It is not difficult to admire the flight of buzzards, hear the rooster crowing at dawn or see a royal woodpecker, a weasel, a fox, or a badger close to the city center.

Several trails meander through the surrounding woods where you can easily find sources of natural spring water. The trails are also equipped with picnic facilities. The urban area consists of 11 villages, many of which still well-preserved old towns, where you can visit monasteries, churches, palaces and houses.

You can find Scigliano to be an alternative vacation destination, a place of ecological and cultural value at once.

You can easily reach the city of Cosenza and Catanzaro, the Sila National Park with its lakes (Ampollino, Arvo and Cecita) and villages (Longobucco, San Severina), and in the Northern direction, the Pollino National Park with its beautiful villages (Morano, Civita, Altomonte) and canyon (Raganello). Not far away are the renowned beach resorts and lovely towns towering over the Mediterranean Sea, like Pizzo, Tropea, Aeolian Islands Scilla, Amantea, Fiumefreddo, ancient towns of great historical and architectural heritage overlooking the crystal blue sea.
The wooden roofed veranda that overlooks a beautiful view of the green valley below serves as the outdoor breakfast area or relax area for the guests to enjoy while reading a book or taking a break from the hottest hours of the day.

Camere B&B Calabria

Maximum Guests: 3
All rooms which originally were storage areas of the old family bakery have private bathrooms and the architectural style of the rooms is stark and clean redesigned by owner : Architect Raffaele Ripoli, from an original building of the 1800s using a contemporary minimalist language. Typical Mediterranean white washed walls with doors and window panes in chestnut wood and terracotta floors characterize the housing space. The furniture mainly consists of strictly functional primitive country wooden pieces.

We were fortunate enough to have a reason to visit the village of Scigliano in the province of Calabria Italy. My husbands mother’s family live there and we were on a mission to explore roots. Scigliano is truly a hidden gem. Google maps could find the town but not the address of any of the inhabitants within the town. If you are looking for a beautiful truly unspoiled Italian village nestled in the hills this is the place. The village is situated between Sila National Park and the sea. Both are less than a thirty minute drive away. The remains of a 2000 year old Roman bridge can be found near the bottom of the hillside. The B&B where we stayed affords expansive views of the area and now a canvas photo of the 800 year old cloister hangs on my living room wall. The top of an impressive Baroque church can also be seen from the B&B and is worth the walk up the narrow village lanes. No less than four churches are scattered among the groupings of homes that make up Scigliano. A couple of typical Italian markets service the village and the pizzeria in the main square is very popular with the locals. Alas we didn’t have the opportunity to eat there as we were served up wonderful fare by my husband’s extended family. We traveled from Canada. It had been 50 years since my husband had last visited and we did not want to impose too much on his family so we booked the only accommodation in town, B&B Calabria. Our accommodations were lovely. We stayed in what used to be an old bakery. Raffaele the owner has renovated it into a couple of comfortable rooms with bathrooms with modern amenities. We especially enjoyed the ancient stone wall and high ceilings in our room. While most of the villagers do not speak English we were delighted to find out that we didn’t need to use Google translate with Raffaele. As he made up some wonderful coffee and served up Calabrese bread with fruit spread or tomatoes and cheese he told us points of interest we may want to check out. His warmth made us immediately feel at home. Biking and motorcyclist enthusiasts looking to explore open roads would love this area.

Maria Talarico.

Enjoying a comfortable and intimate bed and breakfast is the best way to discover Italy
(find here our commercial video in Italian). Here you can find pure bed and breakfasts and other kinds of accommodation, like boarding houses, inns, country houses, tourist rentals, family run hotels. This is because in Italy B&Bs are subject to specific legal and economic restrictions, but there are also other kinds of family managed accommodation that cannot legally use the "B&B" name. In our listing you will find the exact appellation for each property, and if you click it you will find all its specific features.
