Description
Our B&B is located in Scigliano, in the central part of Calabria. The building hosting our B&B was built at the beginning of 1800, in the old part of Scigliano, called Diano.

From 1934 to 1993, on the ground floor of this building, there was the Ripoli’s bakery that sold its bread to the whole village and its surroundings. So we have transformed those premises into our B&B.

There is a very nice terrace where you can have breakfast, relax in the sun and enjoy the nature.

Scigliano is a hill town with a territory that extends from a minimum altitude of 200 meters above sea level (Ponte Romano II sec. ac, below the village Lupia) to a maximum of 1, 000 meters (Agrifoglio village in full Presila).

The area extends over about 17 square kilometers of Mediterranean, unspoiled land, where you can enjoy flora and fauna of the different altitudes. It is not difficult to admire the flight of buzzards, hear the rooster crowing at dawn or see a royal woodpecker, a weasel, a fox, or a badger close to the city center.

Several trails meander through the surrounding woods where you can easily find sources of natural spring water. The trails are also equipped with picnic facilities. The urban area consists of 9 villages, many of which still well-preserved old towns, where you can visit monasteries, churches, palaces and houses.

You can find Scigliano to be an alternative vacation destination, a place of ecological and cultural value at once.

You can easily reach the city of Cosenza and Catanzaro, the Sila National Park with its lakes (Ampollino, Arvo and Cecita) and villages (Longobucco, San Severina), and in the Northern direction, the Pollino National Park with its beautiful villages (Morano, Civita, Altomonte) and canyon (Raganello). Not far away are the renowned beach resorts and lovely towns towering over the Mediterranean Sea, like Pizzo, Tropea, Aeolian Islands Scilla, Amantea, Fiumefreddo, ancient towns of great historical and architectural heritage overlooking the crystal blue sea.

Particularly interesting structure also for the history of the premises from which it was obtained. Essential, comfortable, cozy and tidy rooms. The owner is a delightful person and a rich source of information for those who want to stay in Calabria. The village of Scigliano is very nice.

We absolutely loved our experience here! The view from the balcony is absolutely stunning and meeting our host Raffaele was definitely a highlight of our trip. Our booking was accidentally double booked but Raffaele offered his personal space to us, which was great for us because we love art and because he is a painter the whole space is abundantly filled with his artworks. The balcony has enough room to do yoga or exercise. They offered breakfast and coffee, there's also a cafe and restaurant nearby. Highly recommend. Thank you for having us!

In this part of Calabria, Raffaele is not only the manager of his Spartan but refined B&B Calabria, but also the host, the friend, the histrionic divulger of hidden corners of his precious land. Thanks to his directions, we discovered a Calabria that is mountains, lakes, sea, food, hospitality. My holiday found total correspondence in Scigliano, on a hill (among silence, landscape, and wonderful and hospitable people) a short distance from seaside resorts and from the Sila with its fantastic woods and lakes. An experience definitely worth repeating!

Booking made in the afternoon at 3 pm to arrive around 9 pm. Very friendly owner, who hosted us with grace at a symbolic price. The structure is located inland, the distance from Amantea, by car, is about 1h.

We were fortunate enough to have a reason to visit the village of Scigliano in the province of Calabria, Italy. My husband's mother's family live there and we were on a mission to explore roots. Scigliano is truly a hidden gem. Google Maps could find the town but not the address of any of the inhabitants within the town. If you are looking for a beautiful truly unspoiled Italian village nestled in the hills, this is the place. The village is situated between Sila National Park and the sea. Both are less than a thirty-minute drive away. The remains of a 2000-year-old Roman bridge can be found near the bottom of the hillside. The B&B where we stayed affords expansive views of the area and now a canvas photo of the 800-year-old cloister hangs on my living room wall. The top of an impressive Baroque church can also be seen from the B&B and is worth the walk up the narrow village lanes. No less than four churches are scattered among the groupings of homes that make up Scigliano. A couple of typical Italian markets service the village, and the pizzeria in the main square is very popular with the locals. Alas, we didn't have the opportunity to eat there as we were served up wonderful fare by my husband's extended family. We traveled from Canada. It had been 50 years since my husband had last visited, and we did not want to impose too much on his family, so we booked the only accommodation in town, B&B Calabria. Our accommodations were lovely. We stayed in what used to be an old bakery. Raffaele, the owner, has renovated it into a couple of comfortable rooms with bathrooms with modern amenities. We especially enjoyed the ancient stone wall and high ceilings in our room. While most of the villagers do not speak English, we were delighted to find out that we didn't need to use Google Translate with Raffaele. As he made up some wonderful coffee and served up Calabrese bread with fruit spread or tomatoes and cheese, he told us points of interest we may want to check out. His warmth made us immediately feel at home. Biking and motorcyclist enthusiasts looking to explore open roads would love this area.

As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed by a family atmosphere, we felt truly at home and not just guests. Raffaele's availability goes well beyond that of a B&B manager, he is an exceptional and extremely helpful person, let yourself be pampered for breakfast and rely on him for valuable advice. The room is spacious, clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Splendid breakfast. We appreciated all the little things that really make a difference during a stay. Thank you again for everything.
