Description

"The old poplar" B&B is situatad on Praia a Mare's main street. Praia a Mare is in North Calabria on the Tirrenic Sea. This resort has been created in a house bolonging to the 19th century, recently restored and perfectly functional, according to the modern requirements. "The old poplar" is only 100metres from the sea, in front of a lane planted with trees. Our B&B is in a very good position vhere you can spend your holiday in a pleasant and comfortable relax. Every room has an autonomous air-conditioner, a private bathroom, a tv and a fridge. The rooms are furnished with original furniture and vintage, restored with great attention which gives en elegant and refined touch to the whole place. If you want, you can enjoy a fantastic boat trip around Dino's Island with our boat, or visiting the wonderfull caves as "Arcomagno" or San Nicola Arcella's, Scalea's or Maratea's shores. We can also organize for you any kind of exciting fishing-beating both for singles or for groups. You can also enjoy our escursion to the nearby villages with qualified local guides who will explain you our historical, archeological sites and give you informations about our oenological and gastronomical traditions. There are conventions for private beaches, for tennis, cooking, sub and furniture restoring lessons. If you like, we can help you to rent a bike which is really a great fun and a fantastic way to visit Praia a Mare on your own!Our B&B still offers you the great and tasteful calabrian traditional cooking!Open all year round.

Breakfast

Our breakfast is served to guests in public areas or on the balcony of foto. Usually serve milk, coffee, tea, barley, decaffeinated, fruit and juices mixed. Accompany the breakfast of croissants good pastry, biscuits, bread, donuts and homemade pies, as well as the delicious "tarallini aniseed mountain" that when heated, give all their fragance. Usual we also bring a good basket of fruit and yogurt, honey and jams.

Ciao,
my name is Gaetano and I am the owner of the B&B "Al vecchio pioppo". Before owning this wonderful property I have accomplished many other work experiences. For three years I studied at the University of Perugia where I was granted my veternarian degree, then for a couple of years I worked for the naval business which included securing boats. I also owned a beach establishment were I was a touristic guide. For many years I restored antiques and in the end to start a new job experience I transformed my home to a B&B became a wonderful experience because it lets me meet different people from different places and cultures. We're waiting for you!

To the South, Scalea is 14 km away, Diamante is 30 km away, and Paola is 60 km away. It takes 90 km to get to Sila, 130 km to Lamezia Terme Airport, and 200 km to Naples Airport.

Back to the B&B Al Vecchio Pioppo after 7-8 years, I find it changed and especially improved. Excellent breakfast room on the ground floor. I finally try the yellow room and I must say it was worth it and I have promised myself to come back at least once a year even for just a weekend. Thank you Gaetano and Antonella!

We stayed at Al Vecchio Pioppo last week for two nights and we had a great time, just like at home. The hosts (Gaetano and Antonella) were exquisite, really down to earth. Very beautiful location, we had the Orange one in the attic, but above all it is located in a central point to all places like Maratea, San Nicola Arcella, etc. We will definitely come back. Breakfast ok with freshly baked croissants of various flavors to choose from.

Really nice and very clean structure, equipped with all comforts, very well located, close to the train station and 100 meters from the beach. The city is charming and I can say the same about the owners, Antonella and Gaetano, very attentive and caring; they made us feel at home and, at our request, prepared a very tasty dinner for us, I have never eaten such good eggplants, I guarantee it! We visited San Nicola Arcella and Maratea, famous for the Christ the Redeemer overlooking all the villages of the Gulf of Policastro, but a weekend is too short to get to know this piece of Italy, that's why we have already booked for the month of July, when we will tour the island by boat, with Gaetano. So, it's really time to say: thank you for everything and see you soon!
