Description
For nearly 60 years, the Vierin family has been managing and cultivating the St. Benin farm, located in the municipality of Pollein, a peaceful village on the outskirts of Aosta. With the emergence of new generations, fresh projects are taking shape. Together, we decided to establish an agriturismo to enhance the farm's products and to restore the last remaining section of the farm that still needed renovation.
Thus, in the summer of 2008, renovation work began: the old house was almost completely torn down to make way for six rooms, accommodating a total of sixteen guests. A spacious dining area, a modern, well-equipped kitchen, and a tasting room complete our agriturismo, which we chose to name La Reina.
What does “reina” mean? Literally, it means queen, referring to the cow that dominates the herd. Our family has always raised Valdostana brown cows, known as reines; these cows have a fighting instinct, clashing with one another to establish hierarchies within the herd. The strongest one grazes on the best grass and is the first to drink from the water trough. This combative nature has led to the creation of contests known as the battles of the reines, a series of twenty elimination rounds held throughout the year in various locations in the Aosta Valley. The winners of these rounds qualify for the regional final held in the autumn. Since the inception of these competitions in 1958, our family has participated in the regional finals, qualifying nearly two hundred cattle over the years and achieving the coveted final victory twelve times.
We offer an excellent starting point for exploring the entire Aosta Valley. Centrally located, you can reach any side valley or tourist area within 30 to 45 minutes. The city of Aosta is just 4 km away, accessible by car or, during the day (except Sundays), by a bus that runs every half hour. We are also conveniently located for those wishing to visit castles or Roman monuments. Pollein is a village on the outskirts of Aosta, situated at an altitude of 600 meters.
You can enjoy the tranquility of the countryside while having all the comforts. Nearby, there are various recreational opportunities such as swimming, skating, golf, a bike path, a children’s playground, bowling, cinema, and theater. The Terme di Prè St. Didier, located 30 km away, is perfect for relaxation and a day of pampering. For nature enthusiasts, there are numerous hiking trails in our valleys, ranging from easy walks to more challenging routes, including true alpine itineraries.
All these activities and locations are easily accessible by car in a short time. For adventure lovers, there are beautiful adventure parks, mountain biking trails, and river descents with rafting, hydrospeed, and canoeing. In winter, the ski slopes are very close: the cable car to Pila is only 3 km away, which is about a 5-minute drive. Other ski areas, such as Cervinia, La Thuile, and Crevacol, can be reached in 30 to 40 minutes at most.
You also have the chance to directly visit our mountain pasture in the summer, located in Vetan, in the municipality of Saint Pierre, at 2000 meters, to witness our world of hard work and passion firsthand. You can observe the milking process and see the animals grazing. At the agriturismo, you will find smaller animals like rabbits, chickens, roosters, ducks, ponies, and cats. During your stay, you can also tour our farm for a truly unique experience!
