On July 1, 2015, we left the Netherlands to move to Abruzzo, in the heart of Italy. We are Tieno Bouman and Jet Verberne, originally from Brabant (Tieno from Waalwijk and Jet from Someren).
After numerous vacations in Italy, we discovered that Abruzzo made us feel at home. Initially, we found a lovely apartment where we spent our holidays immersed in local life. We then decided to look for a house where we could live and work, and we found it in Cologna Paese, in the municipality of Roseto degli Abruzzi, province of Teramo, in the Abruzzo region. Our house is called Casa Cologna.
Our refuge offers a spectacular view of the mountains and the sea. What more could you ask for? Every day we enjoy the peace and space that surround us. The vast landscape, the mountains, and the fresh air have become familiar to us, but we still experience them as a daily gift. After a year of intense construction and renovation work, in the summer of 2016, the apartments, bar, and pool were ready.
We love welcoming guests and introducing them to the enchanting and less touristy Abruzzo. We often venture out to discover new destinations so that we can suggest interesting excursions. It is precisely the non-touristy aspect that we love the most about this part of Italy. Here, we experience the authenticity of daily life as it has been for centuries. We pay attention to the needs of our guests, which can range from tranquility and space, with hammocks, books, magazines, and board games, to guided walks and/or bike rides, visits to wineries, pizza workshops, and lots of information about the area.
We have two adorable dogs, Milo and Bari, adopted from an Italian shelter when they were about a month old. At three months (January 2016), they came to live with us. We enjoy their company, and they enjoy ours. Milo and Bari have their own corner in the garden, and guests, especially children, often love taking them for walks in the surroundings, with a walk to the big oak tree as a favorite.
There are also two ginger cats, Robi (red and white) and Turo (all red). Robi is reserved and doesn't show himself to guests, while Turo is very curious and loves to be noticed. For guests who don't like cats, we have a simple water spray to keep them at a distance. Additionally, we have three hens that give us fresh eggs every day. They also have names: Kentucky, Nugget, and Wing.
