Santa Maria Formosa, the campo (square) close to our B&B Aria e Luce, is one of the oldest in Venice, located here is the Querini Stampalia Foundation and of the marvellous church built by Jacopo Sansovino. We are located at the very beginning of Castello, the most “Venetian” sestiere (neighbourhood) of Venice, populated by many local residents, but just a few minutes’ walk from Piazza San Marco, Riva degli Schiavoni and Rialto.
In the area there are still many traditional workshops, typical bars and "osterie" (small restaurants), as well as many other services (vaporetto ferry stops, supermarkets, essential shops and the Civil Hospital too). You will be surrounded by Venetian art and architecture, but not overwhelmed by crowds of tourists!
Less than ten minutes’ walk away there are two main vaporetto (ferry) stops: Rialto and San Zaccaria. From Rialto you can easily reach the Railway Station or Piazzale Roma (the last stop for cars and buses on the island of Venice) in 15/20 minutes, whereas from the San Zaccaria stop all ferry lines pass, either along the Canal Grande (nr. 1 and 2) or the circular lines of Venice and to Lagoon Islands and Lido. So we are located in a perfect and easy position to be reached from the mainland and to visit the Venetian Lagoon. Regardless we will provide you the quickest and most accurate directions to reach us, whether you arrive by car, train or airplane.
