The ancient name of Oristano is Aristanis, which means "between the lakes". It was the capital of Arborea and had the greatest flowering during the government of Eleanor. At that time the city of Oristano controlled all of the Sardinian Region.
Oristano is now a charming town full of charm, with a historic center in many parts still intact and worthy to be visited.
A must visit Piazza Roma with the Tower of St. Christopher, the home of Eleanor, dating from the sixteenth century and the Palace Parpaglia, l '"Antiquarium Arborense" (a museum with a large collection of Neolithic archeology and history of the Sardinia primitive, Punic and Roman).
Oristano, overlooking the sea, with about 35 km of low and sandy coasts at some point, in other rocky points.
The sea is easily reached by bicycle in a few minutes.
