Description
The apartment is located in the heart of the historic center of Ascoli Piceno on the ancient Via Tornasacco (near Piazza Arringo), which follows the path of an old Roman road. It is on the first floor of a historic building and features an entrance with a kitchenette and a sofa bed, a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, and a bathroom with a shower.
On one side, the street leads to Piazza Arringo, while on the other, it meets a small square surrounded by a captivating series of medieval buildings known as the tower houses, which showcase a blend of architectural styles from the 12th to the 14th centuries.
Piazza Arringo, also referred to as Piazza dell'Arengo, is the oldest and largest monumental square in Ascoli Piceno. Its rectangular shape is defined by some of the city's most significant buildings, including the Palazzo dell'Arengo, which began construction in the late 12th century and serves as the main public building, the Cathedral of Sant'Emidio, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, and the Bishop's Palace complex, which houses the diocesan museum, as well as Palazzo Panichi, home to the Archaeological Museum.
The small square is named after the ancient Church of San Gregorio Magno, which highlights the original structure of a classic tetrastyle temple from the late Republican period. In addition to the two fluted columns with Corinthian capitals incorporated into the medieval façade, the east wall of the cella is prominently displayed with its “opus quasi reticulatum” and two fluted corner pillars.
