Venice Airport - Tessera

Venice Marco Polo Airport is an airport located on the Italian mainland near Venice, Italy, in Tessera, a frazione of the commune of Venice nearest to Mestre that, before Fascism, was an autonomous commune. The airport was named after the Venetian traveller Marco Polo, who is considered the European rediscoverer of China. With 6.342.178 passengers handled in 2006, it is the 4th Italian Airport in terms of air traffic. A modern terminal, opened in 2002, hosts all scheduled and charter flights, included some long-haul connections recently started by big airlines like Delta Air Lines, US Airways and Emirates. The airport is managed by SAVE S.p.A., a company partially owned by local authorities which also controls the smaller Treviso Airport, dedicated mainly to low-cost carriers. The stock is traded on the Milan Stock Exchange. The airport is connected to the nearby railway station of Venice-Mestre and to the bus terminal of Venice-Piazzale Roma by scheduled bus services, and to Piazza San Marco by water taxi.
