Stazione Leopolda

Within walking distance of the historic center of Florence, a former railroad station built in the early nineteenth century offers 6,000 square meters of space for cultural events: exhibitions shows, festivals, fashion shows, trade fairs, product presentations, sets for television and new media broadcasts, meetings and amusements. In addition to the impact of its high arches and brick walls, the outstanding feature of the Stazione Leopolda is its versatility due to the fact that it is an “unfinished space” and hence, infinitely modifiable. Another great advantage of the Stazione Leopolda is its central location. It is easily reached from the Fortezza da Basso – with good transportation services – the Florentine exhibition and congress center. It is also a highly visible facility, situated as it is along the grand boulevards that circle the city. To all these positive points we must add convenient parking and, especially for large-scale events, a huge amount of bare space, that is out of sight and ideal for hosting services such as catering, audio/lighting booths and equipment, and for general storage. Stazione Leopolda srl is a Pitti Immagine company. This exhibition space is divided into 4 main areas which are all interconnected, thus making it possible to easily create areas of different sizes, according to the layout requirements. - Stazione Leopolda: Area 1 – 2.100 sq.m. (140 m X 15) This is the longest of the three areas. The average height is 7.50 m, except for the final part (40 m long), where the height reaches 12.50 m. The total surface area is 2,100 sq. m. There are 3 skylights on the roof, which can be blacked out. - Stazione Leopolda: Area 2 – 1.500 sq.m. (100 m X 15) This is separated from Area 1 by scaffolding consisting of pipes and wire mesh which can also be used as stage elements. The average height is 7.50 m and the total surface area is 1,500 sq. m. There are 2 skylights on the roof, which can be blacked out. - Stazione Leopolda: Area 3 This is divided into zones of different sizes (70 sq. m., 110 sq. m., 180 sq. m. and 210 sq. m.) and is separated from Area 2 by a wall pierced by a series of broad arches. - Alcatraz Space The Spazio Alcatraz has a surface area of 1,500 sq. m. and covers 3 floors: the ground floor has a central 500 sq. m. area and a series of side rooms which occupy a total area of 280 sq. m., all fitted with windows. The two upper floors have a rectangular frame gallery structure which covers an area of 250 sq. m. per floor. The lateral strips of the roof of this structure are made of reinforced concrete whereas the central part consists of alternating opaque and transparent panels, supported by iron reticular trusses. - Stazione Leopolda: External forecourt Fully restructured by Gae Aulenti in 1996, the forecourt is completely paved in pietra serena and characterized by columns and iron trusses. The total surface area is 1,100 sq. m.
