Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia (RYCCS)

The original clubhouse was located in a large warehouse by the seaside. The warehouse was occupied by a blacksmith who built cheap iron bed frames. In a corner of the building, the blacksmith had built a furnace with a magnificent blower that he used to heat his irons red hot. This fire-god "Vulcano," sublet a portion of his space to the Club. During the day, “Vulcano” operated his blower with great enthusiasm and the young members of the Club enjoyed the show as a cloud of ashes would drift down on their change of clothes stored in the building while they were out on the water and on the single vessel they owned. This vessel was the "Nautilus," a gift from the neighboring Circolo Italia. Circolo Sebetia was created to provide competition for the older Circolo Italia, which, for this reason, gifted the” Nautilus” to Circolo Sebetia. The first president of Circolo Sebetia was Cav. Michele Avallone and soon after him Prof. Eduardo Migliaccio. Both of them were enthusiastic supporters of the sport of rowing.
