Svevo Museum

The bank clerk from Trieste Ettore Schmitz (1861-1928), harboured within him a restless and brilliant writer named Italo Svevo, author of modern and ruthlessly ironic novels including his masterpiece "La coscienza di zeno". Both Ettore Schmitz and Italo Svevo, have left their mark in this museum, which is dedicated to them: manuscripts, letters, photographs, books, the beautiful cabinet, the golden pen with which they wrote masterpieces as well as routine correspondence, the violin they loved to play. The Museum collects and exhibits all these things, makes them subject of exhibitions and publications, keeps up to date the rich library - the largest collection in the world of editions about Svevo, in original language and in translation, including also literary criticism - and organizes events and performances that celebrate and disseminate the work of Svevo to the public. On December 19th of each year the Museum celebrates Svevo’s birthday with a party.
