Museum R. Corso

It was founded in 1955 by Antonio Basile, Nicola De Rosa, Giuseppe Pignataro, Luigi Lacquaniti, Francesco Salerno, Francesco Cipri, Antonino Nasso, studious of popular traditions, and of other passionate students of those disciplines. It was recognized by the UNESCO as Museum of International Importance. Very valuable and unique, for wealth and variety of samples, is the collection of distaffs; of particular interest are the numerous objects of ancient uses, customs, homework, daily or seasonal agricultural works, activities of fishing, of hunting, of maintenance of the products; but there are also testimonies connected to the popular pity, to ancient religious rites and objects related to magic, to superstition; very considerable is the collection of the apotropaiche masks in ceramic, work of the artisans from Seminara of Gerace and other places of the region. Very interesting a loom of the ninth century and the Giants Mata and Grifone, great puppets in cardboard, that symbolize the union of the native element with that Moorish; brought through the city in the days of feast to the sound of the drums, they simulate e courting dance. Address: Via Felice Battaglia, Casa della Cultura “Leonida Rèpaci”, 89015 Palmi (RC) Tel. +39 0966 262250
