Cathedral Museum

The Cathedral Museum first opened in 1953, based on a project of the art critic Ugo Nebbia, but its present appearance is the result of the grand inauguration of 4th November 2103, after its closure in 2005 due to the radical restoration of the whole Royal Palace complex. All the exhibition areas of this museum have been wholly renewed according to a project by the architect Guido Canali. The museum consists of 27 exhibition rooms, distributed over a surface area of more than 2000 square metres. The Great Cathedral Museum contains a surprisingly varied body of works: sculptures, stained-glass windows, paintings, tapestries and architectural models which range from the 14th century to the present day. On display here are many original marble statues from the cathedral, as well as models and casts from the deposits of the Venerable Factory of the Cathedral.
