Description
The Wise Owl is a house built entirely of straw bales.
We chose straw because it is an ecological, biodegradable, and readily available material. In fact, we used the straw from the field next to our house! I would say it's Metro Zero! No expenses for processing and transportation.
Straw is also an excellent insulator, both from heat and cold, thus guaranteeing a drastic reduction in cooling (practically zero) and heating consumption.
There is no risk of fire because the straw is covered with plaster and also because it is tightly compressed, preventing combustion due to lack of oxygen.
Furthermore, it is a very safe house from a seismic point of view: the straw absorbs shocks, so there is no danger of collapse.
Moreover, when combined with lime and raw earth plasters, straw ensures excellent humidity regulation, ensuring unparalleled climatic comfort.

We are Laura and Stefano, a teacher of primary school and a social worker. About two years ago we moved from Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII in the province of Bergamo, in the North of Italy to the Romagna countryside, following our dream.
The backcountry in Romagna seemed ideal: close to the sea, not far from the beautiful art-city of Ravenna and surrounded by gentle hills. In other words … we are in the heart of Romagna, one of the most welcoming regions in Italy!
“Al gufo saggio” is a dream come true: it’s more solid and resistant than the straw house of the famous story of the three little pigs by the Grimm Brothers. The outside walls are made of bales of straw, while the interior is mainly made of compressed straw panels. The rounded profile, the slightly “pot-bellied” walls, the walls covered in raw earth and lime are absolutely unique and surprising.
An area of our house is open for guests as a Bed & Breakfast. If you want to spend a few days in Romagna for a trip to the beach, a cultural visit, a gastronomic stop-over in one of the many festivals of the area etc … or simply rest in the quiet countryside… you must visit us! You are always welcome in our B&B!

First of all, congratulations to Laura because she is very helpful, very kind, etc. The structure is beautiful and quiet and breakfast is not a 10 but a 15. 3 wonderful days.

Structure immersed in greenery, brand new and super clean. It is located 20 minutes by car from Ravenna. Internal parking and ample spaces in the garden are available. The managers are extremely helpful, friendly, and down-to-earth. Exceptional breakfast with homemade products (including vegan ones).

We stayed 2 nights at Al Gufo saggio - La Casa di Paglia and we had an extremely good time! Laura and Stefano are very kind and welcoming, our little girl fell in love with their dog, Milo, sweet and playful! The room was very clean and equipped with every comfort. I cannot fail to mention Mrs. Laura's breakfasts: spectacular!! A wide choice of sweet and savory foods! If we were to come back to the area, it would be our choice!

Good morning, it is a very welcome confirmation of my old review from a few years ago, my ratings speak for themselves, what more can I say. Managers of an uncommon kindness and courtesy. Spending the whole day at the beach and then sleeping in the countryside is priceless. For the rest, there's Mastercard paraphrasing a well-known advertisement.

Buongiorno, Pasqua 2017 struttura in posizione amena nel bel mezzo della campagna romagnola, ma a pochi chilometri da Cervia, solo due camere ma entrambe splendide arredate in modo molto fine, nuovissime e assolutamente pulitissime, a noi serviva un punto di appoggio per vedere i nostri amici romagnoli, colazione attenta ai bisogni dei clienti con torte e biscotti fatti in casa da Laura, più che gestori quasi amici, parafrasando un noto film di successo, che altro dire se passate da quelle parti fermatevi ne vale veramente la pena. Un caro Saluto.

Un fine settimana di tiepido marzo al Gufo Saggio..come rigenerarsi! La magia della campagna che riversa il suo splendore nella casa di paglia di Stefano e Laura. Magia, meraviglia, amenità, ed un profumo di benessere che a distanza di qualche settimana ancora fluttuava sotto il naso. Che voglia di tornarci! Che voglia di farsi raccontare dell'amore che ha fatto da basamento a questa incredibile costruzione, una vera e propria sfida. Che voglia di rivivere la "scioglievolezza" del pane nero in bocca la mattina a colazione, e tutto il ben di Dio che sarebbe allettante recensire..ma si perderebbe la sorpresa dell'attimo. Un sonno avvolgente, beato ci ha regalato la nostra impeccabile camera, dai dettagli curatissimi ad un clima di pace e serenità. Un posto che ha l'unica pecca di accompagnare alla partenza una malinconia genuina. Quando si ha voglia di aprire una finestrella e trovarci una sorpresa, di sentirsi coccolati, informati, quando si ha voglia di uscire dalla vita vera e partire per un piccolo mondo incantato: il Gufo Saggio è il posto giusto. Stefano e Laura, siete persone straordinarie, e Milo sei il sale che condisce questa meraviglia! Grazie di cuore, a presto.
