Student's Hostel della Ghiara is located in the heart of the historical centre of Reggio Emilia, very close to the magnificent Basilica della Ghiara, from which the Hostel takes its name.
Many of the most important museums and monuments are located few hundred meters away from the Hostel.
Student’s Hostel della Ghiara is open all year long and welcomes travellers from all over the world and is particularly popular with school and group trips. It has a total of 100 beds and provides both private en suite rooms and private room with shared bathroom. The building was restructured in 2000 and it offers modern services and meeting rooms.
In summer, the cloister and the garden turn into a pleasant meeting place for guests.
Its location allows you to easily reach bus stops and the railway station.
The hostel is wheelchair accessible and has rooms with toilets for disable people

Thanks to you, our Cooperative can continue to pursue the dream of a solidarity and sustainable economy, capable of generating full and good employment, and therefore freedom for individuals. Our venture began in 2003. At that time, we were a group of university students eager to break free from the social constraints that suffocate young Sicilians. In collaboration with the Regional Agency for the Right to Study at the University of Palermo, we experimented with managing student housing under the brand "Student's Hostel" to offer hospitality, during the summer period, to thousands of young travelers visiting the city. Since 2008, after winning a public tender for the management of the municipal hostel in the city of Ferrara, the cooperative Ballarò has expanded to Emilia Romagna and the following year to Tuscany, with the management of the Palazzo Gowett hostel in Campiglia Marittima (LI). In 2011, we took over the Ghiara hostel in Reggio Emilia and shortly after, we added the food service.

I find this hostel very suitable for those who want to stay in Reggio for a few days. In addition, the managers have their restaurant that attracts the city's youth, so it is a very pleasant atmosphere and the food is excellent.

Great structure for the quality/price ratio, simple rooms in a recovered ancient/cloister building. The breakfast is simple, but okay, if you don't have big expectations and want to spend the right amount it's the correct choice! Excellent location, practically in the city center, 15 minutes walk from the station.

The Student's Hostel della Ghiara overlooks a beautiful ancient cloister with a garden. The staff is courteous, smiling, and always available. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and spacious. The price is very advantageous. Moreover, it is in the historic center. I recommend it!

Great hospitality, familiar ambiance all over the place. Very nice and charming accommodation though dated facilities. The garden, laundry and restaurant/bar are certainly a plus.

The building of the hostel is beautiful and its location is perfect. The staff aren't friendly. The WC and shower space are old and not so clean. There wasn't toilet paper some days and the door in women's shower space doesn't lock.

Review a bit biased as I visited the facility in low season and therefore the management was not yet fully operational. I would like to revisit in summer, I imagine it to be very welcoming and lively.

Great experience: the hostel is located in a very central position, just a few minutes from the train station, and it is well-maintained. Very clean room equipped with everything needed for the stay, as well as the private bathroom. Very courteous and helpful staff. Good and abundant breakfast. Excellent value for money: besides, I also received a free room upgrade. Recommended structure for anyone who wants to stay in Reggio Emilia spending a fair amount.

Stayed for 4 nights. 2 people for 50 euros per night in a room with a private bathroom. Large spaces with corridors and high ceilings, therefore very noisy. Children screaming and voices until late at night. The guests seem to be transient or permanent residents and make me think of individuals waiting for a residence permit or placed by the municipality in need of housing. One person sleeping in the hallway on a couch for two consecutive nights. However, everyone except tourists or pilgrims. Good reception, breakfast with untoasted toast bread and sugary drinks. The price is not convenient compared to bed and breakfast or Airbnb offers. Exotic experience.

Ottimo, è la terza volta che pernotto alla Ghiara e mi sono sempre trovata benissimo. Quest'anno ho notato una particolare cura nella pulizia: tutto brilla!
Alla sera ho cenato con il mio gruppo nel chiostro, abbiamo apprezzato il menù di pesce e la musica dal vivo, un duo eccellente!

Ero in cerca di una struttura economica che mi permettesse di tenere con me il mio cucciolone di grande bovaro, dato che eravamo in zona per il raduno cinofilo di questa razza. Ho quindi prenotato una camera privata con bagno.
La stanza era molto spartana ma pulita, con letto a due piazze, una scrivania, armadio e comodini. il bagno ben pulito, secondo me poco illuminato (l'unica luce sopra la porta era un po' fioca e allo specchio non ho trovato illuminazione); con un lieve disappunto manca il bidet, ci sono solo doccia e lavandino.
Le finestre danno sulle vie laterali alla chiesa.
nel prezzo pattuito (35€) per la stanza c'è solo il pernottamento con la fornitura della biancheria da letto (lenzuola e coperte) ma non quella da bagno, non è previsto un "set cortesia", ma è inclusa la colazione (a buffet, classica, con pane, fette biscottate, cereali, succo di frutta, caffè/latte&co)
La struttura è inserita in una corte di un palazzo storico, molto bello e ben tenuto e curato, ed è dotata anche di ristorante (dove ho cenato, menù da 20 euro con piatti a scelta dal menù, e devo dire molto buono).
Io e la mia belva siamo stati accolti con moltissima cortesia, purtroppo ho avuto qualche difficoltà con gli accessi al parcheggio in quanto, non per colpa dei gestori, tutta la zona è stata requisita dal comune per una manifestazione sportiva, parcheggio incluso. abbiamo dovuto tribolare un po', ma alla fine siamo riusciti a risolvere il tutto. Il mio bovarotto è potuto stare con me sia in camera che al ristorante che nella sala colazione senza il minimo problema. In generale, nonostante la manifestazione sportiva protrattasi fino a tarda ora la sera e ripresa abbastanza presto la mattina successiva, non c'è stato neppure troppo disturbo a livello di musica e rumore, mi aspettavo di peggio da questo punto di vista.

Bellissima struttura nel centro della città Con parcheggio! Camera spaziosa e pulita, servizi igienici puliti da consigliare, ci ritornerò.
Ristorante con menù di pesce e della tradizione, abbiamo cenato molto bene, in un bella location (nel chiostro) gentile il personale. Ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo.

La struttura è meravigliosa e in un'ottima posizione. Lo staff è molto gentile e disponibile, ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo. La colazione è scarsa e ho preferito andare al bar, ma non avevo certamente la pretesa di trovare una colazione da hotel! Ottimo ostello, lo consiglio!

Bellissimo e suggestivo chiostro nel cuore di Reggio Emilia, struttura affascinante. Purtroppo i servizi, anche se si tratta di un ostello, potrebbero essere di gran lunga migliori: i letti sono scomodi e molto spartani; la pulizia delle stanze e, soprattutto, dei bagni è inadeguata. La colazione è molto frugale, nulla di fresco. Si paga molto poco, ma i servizi offerti non sono all'altezza degli standard europei: con le stesse cifre, si può avere molto di più. Insomma, grande potenziale, però c'è da lavorare.

Utile e ben posizionato perché vicino al cuore di Reggio, molto fredda la camera, puliti siano i bagni sia la camera, colazione un po' povera e connessione WI-FI scadente soprattutto nelle camere specie se si usano Notebook e tablet, per smartphone la connessione è accettabile. Lo staff ok.

Sono stata a RE per lavoro ed ho soggiornato in questo ostello perché preferisco situazioni familiari piuttosto che l'impersonalità degli alberghi. La camera era molto spartana ma pulita, colazione buona e location meravigliosa. Il ristorante gestito da Max offre una degustazione di pesce davvero notevole a prezzi concorrenziali. Unico neo: il deodorante presente in camera davvero ammorbante ho dovuto disattivarlo ed arieggiare continuamente.

I enjoyed my stay at Student'S Hostel Della Ghiara. I had a dorm room for two nights, with only a teacher from Napoli in my room for one of the nights. I appreciated the computer terminals to use the internet as I did not bring my mobile nor a tablet. This was my most affordable stay while in Italy.
The 18E dinner was a lovely at a great price. I complimented the chef, told the staff that the same dinner would have easily cost $40 - $50 in the US depending on how fancy the restaurant was. Dinner service was superb.
I would have appreciated the use of plates and forks to use for snacks or warming up pranzo.

Stanza spaziosa e pulita, letto comodo. Posizione centrale, comodissima e anche abbastanza silenziosa. Personale molto gentile. Pochi bagni in condivisione, doccia impraticabile già dal mattino presto.
Ci tornerei.

Abbiamo soggiornato all'Ostello della Ghiara dal' 08 al 21 di Aprile. Avevamo prenotato la camera doppia con bagno privato, al nostro arrivo abbiamo avuto la graditissima sorpresa che ci era stato assegnato l'appartamento composto: dalla zona cucina attrezzata di tutto " piastre, forno, frigo, stoviglie, posate, piatti, zucchero, sale e persino il detersivo per i piatti", tavolo con 4 sedie parete attrezzata, zona letto armadio e colonnetta letto matrimoniale e lettino, e il bagno trovato pulitissimo e pulito frequentemente come l'appartamento. ogni 5 giorni venivano cambiate le lenzuola, la colazione compresa nel prezzo non ha nulla da invidiare ad un albergo che comprende: fette biscottate, marmellate, burro, yogurt, latte Tè, pancarrè, cornflakes, macchina per il caffè, cappuccino ecc., macchina per i succhi di frutta, tostapane e microonde. La cucina del ristorante è di primissima qualità prevede 2 menù a base di pesce freschissimo e crostacei di € 15 - 20, ottimi i cappelletti in brodo eccezionale il filetto di manzo e la tagliata di vitello, ottimi pure i contorni di verdure o le patate al forno. Bellissimo lo spazio esterno dove si può cenare o comunque prendere un aperitivo. Durante il nostro soggiorno ci sono stati degli incontri per i bambini fra cui la festa del libro per bambini e ragazzi e vari laboratori organizzati in maniera ottima. La domenica si può pranzare all'esterno con buffet € 8 adulti € 5 per i bambini. Esperienza bellissima ed unica che consigliamo a tutti e non vediamo l'ora di ritornarci. Ottimo il posto in centro dove si trova tutto. Abbiamo conosciuto persone stupende una grande famiglia, ci mancate. Grazie di cuore ed un abbraccio a Max, testa, cuore, anima e leader. Struttura fantastica, antica ma del tutto rinnovata, silenziosa e suggestiva. Il personale che lavora alla reception è davvero cordiale e disponibile. Ho dormito in una camerata con 5 letti ed uno solo era occupato quindi mi è andata benissimo. Bagni puliti e forniti sempre di carta igienica e sapone; doccia non troppo calda (ma forse ho beccato un orario sbagliato e l'avevano già fatta in molti prima di me). La colazione è molto basic ma d'altronde è già un grande lusso averla compresa nella modica cifra della stanza. Per il resto ambiente cordiale e multiculturale, ci si saluta con tutti e si diventa amici facilmente, nel pieno spirito di un ostello! Consigliato.
