Casa Lama was born from my parents’ idea. In 1986, they decided to open this country home to guests.
Many years have passed since then, and habits and ways of travelling have changed, but one thing has remained the same: the pleasure of welcoming people from all over the world and making them feel a little at home.
Today, I continue to take care of Casa Lama with the same spirit, trying to preserve what makes it special while also looking ahead. Over the years, I have chosen to restore and reinterpret many of the original furnishings, giving them a new life through colours, shapes and new uses, rather than simply replacing them with something new.
For me, taking care of this place means renewing it without erasing its history, with respect for the environment and for the things that are already here. This is also why I have consciously chosen not to install air conditioning. We are located at around 500 metres above sea level, in an area where evenings and nights are naturally cooler. A few simple measures during the hottest hours, together with the use of fans, are enough to keep the rooms comfortable, before opening them up in the evening to let in the cool night air.
It is a slightly different way of experiencing summer, but it is also a choice that I feel is consistent with the way we have lived in and cared for this place for the past 40 years: seeking comfort without compromising our respect for the environment, and without asking nature to adapt to our needs.
Because some things deserve to change, while others deserve to be cherished.
